Job Overview

The District Attorney’s Office for Maine Prosecutorial District 8 is seeking a full‑time long‑term Acting Capacity Assistant District Attorney.

The Assistant District Attorney will be responsible for managing and prosecuting a high‑volume caseload of drug‑related offenses in Aroostook County. This includes providing proactive direction to the MDEA, Maine State Police, and county and municipal law enforcement agencies within the jurisdiction engaged in investigation of drug‑related offenses. Duties include legal advice on 4th, 5th, and 6th Amendment issues; review and draft affidavits in support of arrest and search warrants; issue subpoenas; participate in proffer interviews of confidential informants and cooperating defendants; assist law enforcement in overdose death cases; draft appellate briefs and conduct oral argument before the Law Court; and manage trial schedules, pre‑trial motions, trials, and post‑judgement motions. Additional responsibilities include representing the District Attorney in the Adult Treatment and Recovery Court specialty docket. Ongoing training and specialization is required.

Qualifications

Applicants must be members of the Maine Bar in good standing, have an eye for legal details, be interested in complex state and federal regulations, have strong legal advocacy and writing skills, and have a demonstrated ability to function effectively as part of a team. 7–10 years of criminal law experience is preferred. High ethical standards, sound judgment, strong communication and interpersonal skills, good organizational/time management skills, and good writing skills are essential.
