Job description

Position Summary

Assistant Director – Kimmel Pavilion SPD (Day Shift, 35 Hours). The role directs all operations of the Sterile Processing Department, assuring quality sterilization and disinfection, managing personnel, resources, finances, and compliance with The Joint Commission, federal, state, and local requirements, and recommended practices from AAMI and AORN.

Job Responsibilities
  • Partner with senior leadership and perioperative leadership to set department strategy and measurable performance-based goals.
  • Create and demonstrate knowledge of department policies & procedures regarding sterilization and high-level disinfection, consistently communicating to staff, management, nursing, and physicians.
  • Oversee the decontamination, cleaning, assembly, sterilization, and HLD of all reusable instrumentation in the medical facility and satellite areas.
  • Maintain awareness of current regulatory requirements; ensure policies are in compliance with applicable regulations and standards.
  • Develop, implement and monitor departmental policies and procedures supporting organizational goals and business objectives.
  • Maintain and oversee policies for emergency situations and downtime.
  • Participate in organizational committees including: Perioperative Management Committee, Infection Prevention and Control Committee, and SPD/OR Regulatory Committee.
  • Work closely with the Infection Prevention Department to establish, implement, and maintain infection control standards.
  • Monitor financial performance and identify strategies to reduce cost and improve quality of care/service.
  • Oversee the implementation and maintenance of instrument and tray standardization across all services and satellite locations.
  • Ensure all equipment is maintained according to manufacturer specifications.
  • Ensure an adequate supply of appropriate departmental equipment and proper maintenance.
  • Conduct weekly quality assurance audits of data validating parameters including IFUs, biological testing, sterilization parameters, and task productivity timings.
  • Assist IT in day‑to‑day operational support, implementation, and upgrades of hardware, software, applications and network.
  • Directly supervise the managers and educators of the department.
  • Determine appropriate staffing patterns; develop processes to screen, interview, hire, train, and maintain competency and documentation of staff.
  • Manage human resources, labor relations, and employee issues.
  • When indicated, implement the hospital’s disciplinary process in an appropriate and timely manner.
  • Collaborate with clinical and hospital managers and educators to assure staff competency and compliance with practices and policies.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in a healthcare-related field or a combination of education and experience.
  • Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CSPT) by IAHCSMM or equivalent certification.
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive leadership experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree.
  • 5 years of CSPD experience.
  • CIS certification.
  • CHL certification.
  • Prior experience in Lean Six Sigma or industrial engineering.
  • Proficiency in MS Office.
  • Experience with inventory control and supplies.
  • Experience with instrument tracking systems.
  • Data analysis and presentation skills.
Required Licenses

Central Sterile Technologist (HSPA).

Salary

Salary range: $117,107.95 – $143,634.50 annually. Actual salaries depend on experience, education, and hospital need. The range does not include bonuses or other compensation.
