Position Title: Assistant Director, Practicum Education (Part-time)
Department: School of Social Work, Borra College of Health and Sciences
Reports To: Director of Practicum Education
Position Summary:
We are seeking a part-time Assistant Director of Practicum Education who will demonstrate ethical conduct, professionalism, and a justice-centered approach in working with students, faculty, staff, and agencies/partners. The candidate will report directly to the Director of Practicum Education and will work closely with the Assistant Director of Practicum Education in carrying out key tasks within the Practicum Education Office, such as practicum readiness, fostering community partnerships, supporting Practicum faculty, and accompanying students in their internship experiences. We are seeking a candidate with a globally focused and relationship-centered perspective, valuing the mission and vision of the Dominican University, the School of Social Work, and the Practicum Education Office. This is a 12-month position that requires in-person collaboration and presence.
The successful candidate will have an MSW, abide by the NASW Code of Ethics, possess a firm understanding of Practicum Education as the signature pedagogy of Social Work Education, and have familiarity or be willing to learn the requirements and guidelines of the Council on Social Work Education Accreditation (CSWE) Standards.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Meet with students for Practicum Readiness Interview meetings.
- Support in the planning of events and programming: Practicum and Job Fair, Advocacy Day, Practicum Instructor Training, Continuing Education events, SSW Information Sessions, Open House Sessions, and SSW Orientation Sessions.
- Maintain relationships with agencies so that the Practicum Education Office understands the practicum placement culture, internship duties, schedule availability, and population served.
- Assist with the administration and maintenance of practicum systems, which require familiarity or willingness to learn CANVAS, Excel, Qualtrics, GivePulse, and the Microsoft Office suite. Problem-solve and serve as support for students in Practicum placements, sometimes requiring attendance at Student Support Meetings and support in the development of remediation plans.
- Syllabi and CANVAS site development and maintenance.
- Provide outreach to agencies, current students, and alumni with regard to Career Development, including planning and presenting Town Hall events, growing the mentoring program, and connecting the community with job postings and other opportunities.
- Travel to local practicum placements/agencies as needed.
- Support the Director in developing systems to aid in office/ student operations
- Other tasks/opportunities as determined by the Director of Practicum Education.
Required Qualifications:- Master of Social Work (MSW) from a CSWE-accredited program.
- At least 2 years post-MSW experience (clinical, community, or administrative) or 2 years post-master's social service experience.
- A commitment to working with first-generation, immigrant, and/or underrepresented/historically excluded students.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:- Ability to work and communicate effectively with underrepresented students.
Preferred Qualifications:- Previous experience and proficiency working with Learning Management System (Canvas).
- Social Work Clinical Licensure (LCSW) or on track/interest in obtaining licensure.
- Experience and/or interest in developing community-based collaborations.
- Mentorship experience with diverse students and training or experience in culturally responsive social work practice.
Physical Demands:- Ability to spend long durations of the workday sitting at a desk and working on a computer
- Ability to lift up to 15 pounds at times

Salary and FLSA Status- Salary: $2,500 per month
- FLSA Status: Exempt, 24 hours weekly
- Pro-rated Tuition remission for employees and their dependents
- Pro-rated vacation and sick time accrual per part-time policy
