Job summary

Camdenton R-III School District is seeking an Assistant Director of Vocal Music, a certified vocal music teacher and collaborative pianist to lead ensembles across grades 6–12. The role emphasizes piano accompaniment, conducting, and high-level vocal instruction in a fast-paced program with a history of excellence.

The ideal candidate will exhibit strong sight-reading, conducting, coaching skills, and a passion for developing young singers.

Qualifications

• Must possess and maintain a valid Missouri teaching certificate for K-12 or Secondary Music Education.
• Pass all background checks and screenings.

Responsibilities

• Provide high level piano accompaniment during rehearsals and performances or coordinate with external accompanists.
• Co-conduct choral ensembles across grades 6–12.
• Deliver high-quality vocal instruction, music theory, and sight-singing pedagogy tailored to changing adolescent voices.
• Develop and implement standards-based curricula accommodating diverse learning styles.
• Lead targeted sectionals, small group rehearsals, and individual vocal coaching for concerts, auditions, and festivals.
• Assist with logistics of the choral department: sheet music library, uniform inventory, field trips, and data entry.
• Collaborate on planning and executing concerts, community performances, musical theater productions, and state/regional choral festivals.
• Recruit students transitioning from middle to high school to maintain enrollment in the vocal music pathway.
• Demonstrate strong classroom management and foster positive relationships with students.
• Collaborate with teachers, staff, and administrators to enhance the educational experience.
• Maintain clear, timely, professional communication with students, parents, staff, and district administrators.

TITLE: Assistant Director of Vocal Music

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Camdenton R-III School District is seeking a skilled, dynamic, and certified vocal music teacher and collaborative pianist to join our growing vocal music program. This position serves nearly 375 students across eight ensembles ranging from grades 6 through 12. The Camdenton Vocal Music Program has a rich history of excellence in student auditions, festivals, and competitions.

We are looking for a musical partner who thrives in a fast-paced, high-energy environment, possesses strong piano and sight-reading capabilities, and shares a passion for inspiring young vocalists to reach their highest artistic potential.

QUALIFICATIONS :

Preferred Qualifications:

• Advanced piano technique and sight-reading skills across a variety of musical styles.
• Prior experience with choral conducting, vocal coaching, or collaborative piano accompaniment in a public school setting.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Provide high level piano accompaniment during rehearsals and performances as needed, or coordinate with external accompanists when applicable.
• Co-conduct choral ensembles across grades 612.
• Deliver high-quality vocal instruction, music theory, and sight-singing pedagogy tailored to changing adolescent voices.
• Develop and implement innovative, standards-based curricula that accommodate diverse learning styles and skill levels.
• Lead targeted sectionals, small group rehearsals, and individual vocal coaching to prepare students for concert performances, auditions, and festivals.
• Assist with the logistical operations of the choral department, including sheet music library management, uniform inventory, field trip planning, and student data entry.
• Collaborate on the planning and execution of concerts, community performances, musical theater productions, and state/regional choral festivals.
• Actively recruit students moving from middle to high school to maintain strong enrollment and continuity within the vocal music pathway.
• Demonstrate strong classroom management skills and build positive, supportive relationships with students.
• Collaborate with other teachers, school staff, and administrators to enhance the educational experience.
• Maintain clear, timely, and professional communication with students, parents, staff, and district administrators.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES:
Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Middle School and High School Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.
