Job summary

North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics (NCSSM) seeks an Assistant Director of Physical Activity & Wellness to lead the PAW program on the Durham campus. The role provides management, supervision, and administrative support to the Athletic Director and oversees portions of Interscholastic Varsity Sports teams.

Primary duties include coordinating facilities, supervising PAW staff, processing contracts, ensuring eligibility and rosters, and supporting wellness initiatives for students.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required with preferences for degree in Recreation, Sports Management, College Student Personnel or Education.
• Minimum of two years experience working in a recreation, athletics, sports management, or education setting.
• Experience training and supervising individuals.
• Knowledge and understanding of interscholastic varsity sports, intramural sports and recreational programming.
• Possess First Aid and CPR certification (must be obtained within the first 6 months of employment).

Responsibilities

• Provide management and administrative support to the Athletic Director for NCSSM’s Durham campus.
• Manage PAW facilities reservations, schedules, and supervision.
• Coordinate temporary hires, biweekly time sheets, procurement and travel arrangements.
• Oversee and evaluate varsity sports operations and team eligibility.
• Plan and facilitate monthly recreational and wellness activities and events.
• Serve as department liaison for club sports and sponsors; manage uniform distribution.
