Job summary

City of South Miami seeks an Assistant Director of Public Works to provide department-wide oversight of Solid Waste, Streets, Fleet, and Facilities. You will lead modernization efforts, implement automated management and asset-tracking systems, and standardize procurement across divisions.

Reporting to the Public Works Director, you will supervise the Superintendent of Maintenance and the Maintenance crews, manage budgets and performance reporting, and ensure safety and regulatory compliance

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in civil, mechanical, or environmental engineering with 10+ years of relevant experience.
• Valid Florida driver’s license and clean driving record.
• Background screening successful and completed.
• Experience in public sector procurement and fleet management.

Responsibilities

• Lead automated management systems across the department.
• Oversee solid waste and streets operations.
• Standardize procurement practices and vendor contracts.
• Prepare division budgets and reports.
• Supervise Motor Pool, Fleet, Facilities, and Maintenance.
