The Division of Transportation Planning & Management (TPM) seeks an organized and collaborative candidate to assist and lead initiatives related to the NYC Streets Plan, NYC DOT's five-year transportation plan to improve the safety, accessibility, and quality of the City's streets for all New Yorkers. Reporting to the Director of NYC Streets Plan, this position will assist in the development of the next five-year Streets Plan and annual update reports.
The Assistant Director will be responsible for maintaining tracking of progress toward the Streets Plan goals, working with various internal planning and implementation units. They will lead efforts to improve internal project process mapping, create evaluation processes for past projects, and conduct research on best practices in peer cities. The candidate should have experience creating reports, managing data, conducting evaluations and research, and coordinating work across multiple teams. Familiarity with NYCDOT street redesign projects is also desired.
Under the guidance of senior staff, the Assistant Director will work closely with NYCDOT divisions to track street design work, document internal processes, and coordinate planning of the Streets Plan and annual updates. The ideal candidate is effective at writing and communicating to both technical and general audiences, has strong analytical skills, and is interested in process investigation, documentation, and improvement.
TPM is responsible for the safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible movement of people and goods on the City's streets, supporting economic and social vitality. Responsibilities include planning, street design, technical analysis, signage, transit development, freight mobility, markings, and ensuring safety for motor vehicle occupants, pedestrians, and cyclists.
Preferred Skills
The ideal candidate must demonstrate strong creative and analytical problem-solving skills, experience in transportation planning and street redesign, project leadership, data management, report writing, research, and excellent verbal and written communication skills. Experience or interest in database management, ArcGIS, Excel, PowerPoint, and Adobe Creative Cloud is desirable.

This position is eligible for remote work up to 2 days per week under the Remote Work Pilot Program between the City and DC37.
