Position Summary

Plans, coordinates, and provides total nursing care for patients while supervising and guiding clinical staff members. The scope of work may be modified by state-specific rules under the Nurse Practice Act.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Drive continuous quality improvement initiatives within the nursing team and across departments.
  2. Lead the development of individualized nursing care plans.
  3. Assess and document patients' conditions and nursing needs.
  4. Implement physicians' orders accurately and promptly.
  5. Assign nursing care according to patient needs and staff capabilities.
  6. Supervise and evaluate UMs, LNs, CNAs, and UCs.
  7. Administer medications, start IVs, perform treatments, and document all procedures in compliance with regulations.
  8. Participate in orientation, training, and ongoing education of team members.
  9. Assist physicians with tests and procedures within the scope of the Nursing Practice Act.
  10. Ensure safe and economical utilization of supplies and equipment.
  11. Record pertinent observations and reactions regarding patients.
  12. Coordinate nursing care during therapy or procedures by other departments.
  13. Assist with emergency measures for adverse developments.
  14. Interview and recommend hires; participate in staff counseling, disciplinary actions, and terminations as permitted by law.
  15. Manage staffing schedules and direct nursing staff within legal boundaries.
  16. Attend and contribute to in-service training and meetings.
  17. Provide leadership, fairness, and respect within the team.
  18. Offer clear, timely feedback and foster a collaborative team environment.
  19. Engage with patients to assess needs and manage concerns effectively.
  20. Prioritize workload, delegate tasks, and meet deadlines.
  21. Make informed decisions and stay updated on best practices and new developments.
  22. Set and pursue realistic, measurable goals aligned with organizational objectives.
  23. Think creatively and initiate new approaches for improvement.
  24. Support employee development and training initiatives.
  25. Train new employees thoroughly and identify promotable staff for advancement.
  26. Manage departmental budget within scope of responsibility.

Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent; graduate of an accredited Nursing program.
  • At least 5 years of progressive nursing experience, with 2 years in leadership.
  • Valid Texas LPN/RN license and CPR certification.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Degree in Nursing, Healthcare Management, or related field.
  • 7+ years of nursing experience and 3+ years in leadership roles.
