Harbor Point Behavioral Health Center in Virginia is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse to plan, direct, and evaluate nursing care for residents aged 7-17 within a secure residential setting. You will adhere to nursing standards and ensure patient safety while coordinating care with the treatment team.

The RN role emphasizes therapeutic relationships, quality patient care, and ongoing education for patients and staff, with opportunities for leadership progression within the UHS network.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an approved School of Nursing conferring RN, AD or diploma in Nursing.
• Must be licensed by the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Registered Nurse or hold a multi-state license.
• One year nursing supervisory experience required (two preferred).
• Experience with children/adolescents in a psychiatric facility or rehabilitation program preferred.
• Knowledge of risk factors for violence and suicidal/homicidal ideation; ability to assess.

Our programs are designed to meet the needs of youth ages 7- 17 who are experiencing emotional, psychiatric and educational difficulties. In addition to our general psychiatric programs, we also offer specialty programs for youth with more serious challenges. Harbor Point and its programs are fully accredited by The Joint Commission and the Virginia Association of Independent Specialized Educational Facilities. The Registered Nurse is responsible for planning, directing, implementing, and evaluating all aspects of nursing care on assigned unit for residents ages 7-17. Adheres to Nursing Standards and Policies, Facility Policies and Procedures, the Nurse Practice Act, and maintain patient safety.

Essential Functions

• Nurse/Patient Relationship: Develops and maintains a therapeutic relationship throughout the healthcare continuum.
• Assuring/Improving Quality Care: Facilitates the patient and family’s right to receive safe, quality, and cost effective care. Maintains and protects confidentiality regarding all aspects of patient care and information.
• Patient/Staff Education: Demonstrates a commitment to meeting the learning needs of patients, families, and Staff. Utilizes appropriate resources to meet those needs and achieve positive patient or Staff outcomes. Assists in creating an environment that promotes educational growth opportunities for nursing peers and colleagues.
• Nursing Process: Demonstrates the use of nursing process as a problem-solving model. Demonstrates a mastery of clinical skills related to patient’s mental health and physical health needs.
• Leadership/Collaboration/Professional Development: Demonstrates respect and understanding for peers and other clinical disciplines and participates as an effective member of the patient care team to formulate an integrated approach to care.
