Salary: $95,000–$115,000 per year
About the Role
Heartland Nursing and Rehabilitation Center is seeking a dedicated and experienced Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) to support the Director of Nursing in overseeing the daily operations of the nursing department. The ADON will help ensure high-quality resident care, regulatory compliance, effective staffing, and strong clinical and administrative practices throughout the facility.
The ideal candidate will be a Registered Nurse (RN) with prior Infection Prevention (IP) experience and supervisory experience in a skilled nursing, rehabilitation, hospital, or related healthcare setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the Director of Nursing with planning, organizing, implementing, evaluating, and directing the daily operations of the nursing department.
- Help develop, maintain, and implement nursing department policies, procedures, and standards of practice.
- Ensure nursing staff follow their job descriptions, facility policies, and applicable regulations.
- Conduct daily nursing rounds and monitor the quality and delivery of resident care.
- Review nurses' notes and documentation to ensure care is accurately documented and reflects residents' needs and responses.
- Monitor medication passes and treatment schedules to ensure medications and treatments are administered as ordered.
- Report medication errors, resident concerns, abuse allegations, and other significant incidents to the Director of Nursing in accordance with facility procedures.
- Assist with the development and implementation of the nursing department's quality assurance and performance improvement programs.
- Monitor QI/QM reports, survey findings, and other quality indicators and make recommendations for improvement.
- Participate in facility surveys and inspections conducted by authorized regulatory agencies.
- Assist with staffing, scheduling, and daily staffing requirements.
- Delegate appropriate responsibilities to RNs, LPNs, Nurse Supervisors, and other nursing personnel.
- Assist with employee orientation, training, performance evaluations, and leadership development.
- Participate in developing and conducting in-service education and staff training programs.
- Help maintain adequate supplies, equipment, medications, and other resources necessary to meet resident needs.
- Assist with admissions, including communicating new admissions to nursing staff, ensuring rooms are prepared, and welcoming residents upon arrival.
- Assist with physician rounds and follow up regarding physician visits, orders, progress notes, and other required documentation.
- Assist with resident discharge planning and coordinate the nursing services portion of discharge plans.
- Assist with MDS planning and coordination, including implementation of appropriate care planning processes.
- Review and address resident and staff complaints and grievances in accordance with facility policies.
- Maintain appropriate documentation regarding complaints, grievances, investigations, and actions taken.
- Serve on facility committees, including the Quality Assurance Committee, as assigned.
- Assume appropriate nursing administrative responsibilities in the absence of the Director of Nursing.
- Promote a safe, respectful, and professional environment for residents and staff.
- Ensure nursing department practices comply with applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
Requirements
- Must possess a current, active, and unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Florida.
- Nursing degree from an accredited college or university preferred.
- Previous Infection Prevention (IP) experience required.
- Minimum of two (2) years of supervisory experience in a hospital, skilled nursing facility, rehabilitation center, or related healthcare setting.
- Minimum of six (6) months of experience in rehabilitative and restorative nursing practices.
- Strong knowledge of nursing standards, regulatory requirements, quality assurance, and resident care practices.
- Excellent leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with nursing staff, physicians, residents, families, and interdisciplinary team members.
- Knowledge of MDS, care planning, quality improvement, and regulatory compliance preferred.
