- Filling the Part 119 required position of Director of Maintenance as the primary backup.
- Reference 14CFR §119.65(d) as listed at the beginning of this section.
- (c) To serve as Director of Maintenance under §119.65(a) a person must-
- (1) Hold a mechanic certificate with airframe and powerplant ratings;
- (2) Have at least 1 year experience in a position responsible for returning airplanes to service;
- (3) Have at least 1 year experience in a supervisory capacity under either paragraph (c)(4)(i) or (c)(4)(ii) of this section maintaining the same category and class of airplane as the certificate holder uses; and
- (4) Have 3 years experience within the past 6 years in one or a combination of the following-
- (i) Maintaining large airplanes with 10 or more passenger seats, including at the time of appointment as Director of Maintenance, experience in maintaining the same category and class of airplane as the certificate holder uses; or
- (ii) Repairing airplanes in a certificated airframe repair station that is rated to maintain airplanes in the same category and class of airplane as the certificate holder uses.

- Plans and utilizes resources to meet operational and departmental goals and objectives.
- Ensures efficient scheduling and use of assigned resources to provide maximum, effective productivity.
- Collaboration with the Maintenance Leadership team to ensure optimal productivity of manpower is achieved and adjusts the manpower as necessary.
- Oversees and manages Line and Hangar Maintenance Operations to ensure that all maintenance facilities are operated in compliance with FAA, OSHA and EPA regulations and Company policies and procedures.
- Represents Company in union grievance proceedings.
- Ensures that complete and accurate records are maintained.
- Responsible for providing leadership to direct staff to ensure the various teams incorporate continuous improvement methods to efficiently support maintenance production and the daily operation.
- Collaboration with the Maintenance Leadership Team to identify and implement initiations to increase fleet performance.
- Advanced skills are required to use Microsoft Office applications and other software to create various reports and analysis relating to maintenance and engineering procedures, plans, and forecasts.
- Team member in operational performance meetings with various stakeholders providing proactive and follow up data regarding maintenance’s performance and initiatives.
- Administers and controls assigned budgetary responsibilities and prepares monthly budget variance reports.

Education & Experience:
Required:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Aviation Maintenance or Engineering discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
- FAA Airframe and Powerplant license required.
- Five to seven years aircraft maintenance management experience in FAR Part 121 Air Carrier operations, preferably in a union environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Problem solving skills, out-of-box thinking, persistence and a tenacity in following up on tasks and ensuring they are completed within the timeframe required.
- Ability to create, track and maintain a project plan.
- Advanced Excel skills required.

- Supervises direct report staff within the Maintenance Departments at various locations. Must have strong communication skills.

- Hangar/Ramp (hangar is well-lighted, heated and protected from the elements. Noise level may high depending on the type of work being performed and there may occasionally be exhaust from various engines)

- May be called in on irregular operations; must be available 24/7 including nights, weekends and holidays.
