Job description

Position: Assistant Director of Innovation

Work Schedule: 8 hours/day, 260 days/year

Holidays: 13 Days

Vacation Days: 25 Days

Personal Leave: 3 Days

Job Summary
The Assistant Director provides key leadership at the West Valley Innovation Center, a mastery-based and project-based learning school serving grades 7-12. This role focuses on supporting student success, instructional excellence, and operational efficiency. With expertise in student support, positive behavior management, instructional best practices, and community engagement, the Assistant Director enhances student experiences—particularly within CTE programs such as Computer Science, Health Science, STEM Robotics, and STEM Aerospace—where core academic standards are integrated.

Minimum Qualifications
• Valid Washington State Administrator Certificate
• Valid Washington State Teacher Certificate
• Master’s degree in Education or a related field (preferred)
• Experience or training in cultural, ethnic, and language diversity (preferred)
• Experience with serving students with disabilities

Preferred Qualifications
• CTE teaching certification
• CTE director certification
• Experience with diverse populations of students
• Expertise in student support, Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS)
• Strong knowledge of Mastery-Based Learning (MBL), Project-Based Learning (PBL), and learning standards
• Experience in staff evaluation, coaching, and professional development
• Background in Career & Technical Education (CTE) programs
• Strong communication skills with students, staff, families, and community partners
• Commitment to supporting all learners and promoting inclusive education
• Experience in administering state testing and data analysis
• Bilingual candidates preferred

Primary Responsibilities
1. Student Experience & Support
• Oversee and enhance the student experience at the Innovation Center\Implement district and center-wide initiatives to improve student success
• Develop and execute strategies for student engagement across all programs
• Manage PBIS and office referrals to support positive student behavior
• Oversee state testing administration and analyze results to guide instructional improvements
2. Instructional & Staff Support
• Support and mentor teachers (designers) in classroom instruction and management
• Provide coaching and professional development for staff to enhance teaching practices
• Lead Professional Learning Community (PLC) meetings, focusing on student data and learning standards
• Assist with program development, curriculum refinement, and instructional best practices
3. Family & Community Engagement
• Maintain proactive communication with students, families, and staff
• Develop and implement strategies to engage families in their child's education
• Foster partnerships with community organizations to enhance student learning opportunities
4. Operational Leadership & Continuous Improvement
• Allocate resources effectively to support student learning and center initiatives
• Address and resolve conflicts involving students, staff, and families
• Plan and coordinate events and activities that promote student success
• Promote a culture of continuous improvement using feedback and data analysis
• Prepare and present reports on student progress, engagement, and program effectiveness

Working Environment
The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting (able to lift 50 pounds and assisting in lifting over 50 pounds), carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 34% sitting, 33% walking, and 33% standing. The job related is performed under a generally hazard free environment and in a clean atmosphere.
