Department: Office of Family Engagement

Reports To: Executive Director, Office of Family & Community Advancement and Share Decision Making

Position Summary:

The Assistant Director will oversee the development and implementation of systems and programs that promote effective family engagement across the district. Serving as a key liaison between the Family-School Engagement Practice (FSEP) Team—including Family Engagement Facilitators, Parent University Parent Educators, and the Executive Director—the Assistant Director will ensure that all initiatives align with the district’s family engagement standards and strategic goals to advance student academic success, increase parent engagement, and strengthen trust between families, schools, and the broader community.

In addition, the Assistant Director will have a dotted line to the Family Engagement Facilitators and the Parent University Team to manage, supervise and evaluate alongside the Executive Director ensuring their work is integrated with our broader family engagement efforts and expanded equitably across all Boston Public School regions.

Key Responsibilities:

    • Support the Executive Director of Family & Community Advancement and Share Decision making and effectively carry out assigned responsibilities.
    • Act as a proxy in the absence of the Executive Director.
    • Assist in developing long and short-term goals through strategic planning and analysis
    • Systems & Infrastructure: Develop and manage team systems and infrastructure to implement high-impact family engagement practices and programs, collaborating with FSEP Team and district and community-based partners.
    • Integration of Parent University: Support the integration of Parent University family engagement practices into the work of Family Engagement Facilitators and guide the regional expansion of Parent University resources.
    • Data Support: Establish and maintain data systems to track and evaluate FSEP programming, coaching, training, and School Site Council observations, while also developing an online system to organize and share Parent University offerings by region to support data-driven decisions and continuous improvement.
    • Facilitation & Leadership: Lead learning and coaching sessions for School Leaders and Family Engagement Facilitators to build capacity in family engagement, strengthen stakeholder collaboration, and promote continuous improvement in engagement strategies.
    • Research & Analysis: Conduct research and analysis to support the development of professional learning for FSEP Team, exploring evidence-based family engagement practices and programs.
    • Program Evaluation: Define, evaluate, and analyze the effectiveness o f FSEP Team family engagement initiatives on student attitudes towards learning, academic success, attendance, and family participation.
    • Stakeholder Collaboration: Serve as a liaison to internal and external stakeholders, including schools, families, communities, and relevant departments, to ensure cohesive and effective family engagement efforts.
    • Supervision & Evaluation: To supervise and evaluate the Family Engagement Facilitators and Parent University Parent Educators. in collaboration with the Executive Director.
    • Perform other related duties and responsibilities as requested by the Executive Director of Family & Community Advancement and shared Decision Making and the Chief of Family and Community Advancement.

Qualifications - Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Counseling, Social Work, Human Services, Public Administration, or a related field required.
  • 1-2 years of experience in developing, implementing, and evaluating family engagement programs, as well as coaching stakeholders for program implementation.
  • Skills:
    • Strong understanding of family engagement strategies and best practices.

    • Proficiency in data analysis and program evaluation.

    • Excellent facilitation and leadership skills.

    • Ability to conduct thorough research and apply findings to practice.

    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with diverse stakeholders.

Qualifications - Preferred:

  • Master’s degree preferred
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in teaching K-12 in an urban school district
  • Experience in program planning and training/development related to family engagement
  • Familiarity with Academic Parent-Teacher Teams and other collaborative engagement models
  • Knowledge of Title I Parent Involvement regulations and best practices.
