Job summary

The University of New Haven is seeking an Assistant Director of Events to lead planning, coordination, and execution of high‑impact recruitment events for undergraduate and graduate admissions at the West Haven campus.

Reporting to the Associate Director of Events, you will supervise the Charger Ambassador program, coordinate visits, and partner with admissions and campus partners to drive enrollment goals.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Experience in admissions, event planning, higher education, or a related field.
  • Excellent planning, organization, and communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to engage with diverse populations.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office; experience with CRM systems (Slate) preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds in support of event setup and travel responsibilities.
  • Availability to work evenings and weekends as needed (approx. 15+ weekend dates per year).
  • Must demonstrate a tireless commitment to enrolling and retaining a diverse student body.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with events team, admissions staff, and campus stakeholders to meet recruitment and enrollment objectives.
  • Supervise the Charger Ambassador program, including recruiting, training, and managing student ambassadors.
  • Plan and implement a wide range of in-person, virtual, and off-campus recruitment events.
  • Lead on-campus, off-campus, and virtual information sessions for prospective students and families.
  • Contribute to event communications and respond to inquiries from prospective students and families.
  • Coordinate event invitations and promotional materials with the enrollment communications team.
  • Manage event setup and workflows in the CRM system (Slate), including registrations and follow-ups.
  • Serve as a liaison with faculty and campus departments to coordinate logistics.
  • Make follow-up calls to prospective students and families to confirm attendance.
  • Travel locally and regionally to represent the University at college fairs and visits.
  • Provide general office support to ensure smooth daily operations and customer service.
  • Perform other duties to support the Admissions Office mission.

Reporting to the Associate Director of Events, the Assistant Director of Events plays a vital role in the planning, coordination, and execution of high-impact recruitment events for both undergraduate and graduate admissions. The Assistant Director works closely with the Associate Director of Events and campus partners to create engaging and welcoming experiences that support institutional enrollment goals.

This role also includes supporting the Charger Ambassador (student tour guide) program, coordinating daily and group visits, assisting with event communications, and delivering exceptional service to prospective students and their families.

You will:
  • Collaborate with the events team, admissions staff, and campus stakeholders to achieve recruitment and enrollment objectives.
  • Responsible for the supervision and day-to-day operations of the student Charger Ambassador program, including the recruitment, training, and management of student ambassadors.
  • Help plan and implement a wide range of in-person, virtual, and off-campus recruitment events, including Undergraduate and Graduate Open Houses, Daily Information Sessions, Accepted Student Days, Charger Days, Virtual Webinars and Information Sessions, off-campus receptions and special visits.
  • Represent the University by leading engaging on-campus, off-campus, and virtual information sessions for prospective students and families.
  • Contribute to the development of event-related communications and respond promptly to prospective student and family inquiries.
  • Partner with the enrollment communications team on event invitations and related promotional materials.
  • Coordinate event set-up and communication workflows within the CRM system (Slate), including registration confirmations and post-event follow-up.
  • Serve as a liaison with faculty and campus departments to coordinate event logistics.
  • Make follow-up calls to prospective and families to confirm event attendance.
