  • Prioritize and resolve maintenance requests promptly to minimize disruption.
  • Develop and supervise a team of technicians to meet technical standards.
  • Oversee preventive maintenance and coordinate ground/landscaping teams; train on safety protocols.

Job Description

Working at Auberge requires a pursuit of excellence in luxury service delivery, and this role requires that same ambition. The Assistant Director of Engineering is responsible for working side by side with the team, ensuring guest and colleague comfort and safety at all times.

Responsibilities
  • Work as an active member of the management team, creating professional relationships and being actively involved with all hotel operations, including daily and weekly management meetings, and supporting all team members, including Manager on Duty shifts.
  • Provide in‑house mechanical and electrical servicing, repair, and maintenance using well‑trained, presentable personnel carrying out maintenance work efficiently, discreetly, and in a guest‑friendly manner.
  • Ensure that all maintenance requests are prioritized and dealt with efficiently.
  • Develop, train, and supervise a team of technically proficient and generally helpful technicians to carry out all maintenance and repair work to standard with technical specifications.
  • Oversee and coordinate mechanical repairs, preventive maintenance, and ground/landscaping teams.
  • Ensure the fire system is operating properly and train the maintenance team as well as key team members, such as Night Audit, on fire emergency protocol.
  • Act as the “go‑to” person in the absence of the Director of Engineering.
Qualifications
  • Must have proven experience and a solid understanding of plumbing, HVAC, electric, spa, pool utilities, and carpentry.
  • Three years’ operating experience in the engineering department of a hotel or closely related industry; luxury preferred.
  • Experience in maintaining state and federal health and safety regulations.
  • Ability to work on a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays, according to departmental and operational needs.
  • Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand English; bi‑lingual highly appreciated.
  • Computer literacy in Microsoft Windows applications required.
