Assistant Director of Community Wellness

Position: Full-Time / Exempt / Salaried

• Tier I Salary: $60,000 - $74,000 (Non-Licensed)
• Tier 2 Salary: $65,000 - $79,000 (Licensed, not independent (for example LMSW, LMHC))
• Tier 3 Salary: $70,000 - $84,000 (Independently licensed (for example LCSW, LPCC))

Location: Las Cruces, NM (Primary Site)

Job Summary

The Assistant Director of Community Wellness provides day-to-day operational leadership and clinical-quality coordination, in partnership with the Director of Community Wellness Services, for Outpatient Services, Intake and Assessment, Targeted Case Management, Care Coordination, and Primary Care Screening. The role translates department priorities into consistent workflows, effective administrative supervision, timely service delivery, and measurable follow-through.

The Assistant Director partners with the Director to strengthen and stabilize program operations, clinical quality, workforce performance, and service capacity. The position combines operational leadership, service-quality coordination, workforce development, and continuous improvement. It identifies and addresses barriers that affect timely access, continuity of care, staff effectiveness, service delivery, and participant outcomes. The overarching goal is to help programs serve more individuals, provide services at the frequency appropriate to their needs, and achieve stronger and more consistent outcomes.

The Assistant Director provides administrative supervision to assigned staff, supports compliance with agency, Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic, Medicaid, licensing, and contract requirements, and uses operational and clinical-quality data to improve performance. Formal clinical supervision is not an automatic responsibility of this position; FYI+ makes that assignment separately in writing. An Assistant Director may provide such supervision to assigned staff only when independently licensed, authorized for the applicable discipline, appropriately credentialed, and formally designated by FYI+. Otherwise, FYI+ will assign another qualified independently licensed clinician. This position does not require the Assistant Director to hold a clinical license.

Core Responsibilities

Program Operations

Oversees day-to-day operations across Community Wellness, coordinating referral, intake, assessment, Primary Care Screening, and service workflows so participants flow through the continuum smoothly. Manages scheduling, space use, and group programming.

Staff Supervision

Directly supervises assigned staff, including Outpatient therapists and nonclinical providers. Handles 1:1s, time-off approvals, performance evaluations, and coaching.

Clinical Quality & Coordination

This role is explicitly not a clinical supervisor by default — formal clinical supervision is separately assigned in writing by FYI+, only if independently licensed and designated. Otherwise, the AD's role is administrative supervision and operational coaching, with complex/high-risk cases referred promptly to a licensed clinician for consultation.

Access & Capacity

Tracks referral volume, wait lists, time-to-intake, and caseload/appointment utilization to spot and fix access barriers; ensures smooth handoffs between levels of care.

Compliance & Quality Improvement

Ensures compliance with CCBHC, Medicaid, and licensing standards; runs chart audits and documentation reviews; analyzes performance trends and drives corrective action.

Workforce Development

Supports hiring, on-boarding, and coaching on operational/documentation/engagement skills, while coordinating clinical-competency development with licensed clinical leadership.

Financial/Contract Stewardship

Assists the Director with budget monitoring, grant/contract deliverable tracking, and flags financial or operational risks early.

Cross-Program & Community Coordination

Acts as liaison between Community Wellness and other departments, strengthens ties to Crisis and Recovery Services, and represents the department externally.

Clinical Duties — Conditional

Unlike the Crisis and Recovery version, direct clinical work is not required here and won't be assigned unless the incumbent holds the applicable license. If they do, FYI+ may separately authorize limited clinical coverage, assessments, or triage — always within scope of practice and written authorization.

Qualifications

Education and Licensure

• Bachelor's degree in behavioral health, human services, healthcare administration, public administration, business administration, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and progressively responsible experience.
• A relevant master's degree, completed or in progress, is preferred.
• Current New Mexico professional licensure in a behavioral health or related clinical discipline is preferred but not required.
• Any direct clinical service or other license-dependent function requires the applicable education, license, credentialing, board-required supervision, and FYI+ authorization.

Experience

• Minimum of two years of experience in program management, operations management, or administrative leadership in a behavioral health or healthcare setting.
• Experience directly supervising clinical or service-delivery staff is preferred.
• Demonstrated experience with compliance monitoring, data reporting, workflow improvement, and program documentation management.
• Experience working within a Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic or similar community-based organization is preferred.
• Experience with electronic health record systems; familiarity with Streamline SmartCare is preferred.
