Specific Job Title : Assistant Director of Campus Recreation
Reports to : Director of Campus Recreation
Job Summary:
Reporting to the Director of Campus Recreation, the Assistant Director of Campus Recreation will assist in the administration and management of operational and programming aspects of a comprehensive fitness and intramural program. The incumbent will handle the planning, organization, scheduling, supervision, and evaluation of all intramural leagues and club sports . This individual will also be the point person for all club sports coaches/captains. This individual will oversee budgeting for intramural and club sports and graduate assistants for intramurals and fitness, student staff, and per diem officials/referees
Campus Recreation is part of the Division of Student Success . The Assistant Director will collaborate with colleagues across the Division and the university to provide students with excellent extracurricular experiences and opportunities to meet health and fitness goals. This position primarily involves hours in the evening (4:30 pm-11 pm ). Main responsibilities include intramural sport league and event planning, recruitment and training of student officials and event managers, sport club oversight and administration, guidance for sport club executive boards, and evaluation of risk and management of sport programs .

Oversee and supervise the day-to-day operations and programming of Campus Recreation, including Fitness, Intramurals, and Club Sports .
Create a robust intramural calendar that provides extensive and exciting intramural sports offerings that best meet the needs of our students, research aspirants, and peer institutions for new ideas.
Hire and train all staff and officials on proper sports rules based on NIRSA rules, regulations, and recommendations :
Demonstrated organizational and time management skills .
Ability to think critically and present information is essential.
P roficien cy in MS Office.
Ability to travel and work non-traditional hours if needed.
Work experience within a collegiate setting is preferred .
Basic supervisory skills .
Supervisory Responsibility :
Supervises four graduate assistants and fifty to sixty student workers, including intramural student supervisors, assistants, and officials.
This position operates in a professional office environment . This position requires the use of standard office equipment such as personal computers, printers, etc. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand, move about, sit, carry work and use controls, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, and communicate. The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 50 lbs.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work :
This position is full-time and requires weekday evenings and weekend hours.
Travel :
Travel is primarily local and may include visits to the other NY campuses .
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Recreation, Physical Education, Sports Management, or a related field required with three to five years of professional experience with campus recreation, intramural or sport league programming in the college or private recreation field.
Sports officiating and coaching experience is required at either the high school or college level.
Certifications: First Aid, CPR, and AED certifications or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment.
Nationally recognized NIRSA certification or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment .

In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual salary for this position is $64,350 . St. John’s University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
This position may be relocated to any of St. John’s University’s physical locations at any time.
