The hiring salary for this position will be from the min to mid-point of the salary range.

The Assistant Director of Athletics and Fitness is a key leadership role responsible for the day-to-day management of the College’s fitness center, athletic facilities, and wellness programs. This position provides strategic support in the planning, development, and implementation of departmental goals. The Assistant Director ensures high-quality, student-centered fitness services while maintaining the safety, functionality, and utilization of athletic spaces. Additionally, the Assistant Director acts as a key liaison across campus and serves as a primary backup to the Director of Athletics in their absence.

30% Fitness Center and Wellness
  • Oversee the daily operations of the fitness center, ensuring safety, cleanliness, equipment upkeep, and user compliance.
  • Develop, implement, and assess fitness and wellness programs tailored to the needs of students, employees, and community members.
  • Supervise and schedule fitness center staff, student employees, and interns; provide training and conduct evaluations.
  • Closely monitors the effectiveness of the fitness center while providing excellent customer service and high-quality programs.
  • Evaluates, measures, and assesses fitness training needs of all clients and specifically student athletes, and develops group and individualized exercise programs.
  • Creates and supervises activities/programs in the fitness center/gym to support the needs of the college community.
30% Athletic Facility Management
  • Manage and schedule usage of the Physical Education (PE) Building, fitness center, gymnasium, and outdoor athletic fields.
  • Coordinate maintenance and repairs with Facilities and external vendors to ensure the safe operation of all athletic and recreational spaces.
  • Support the setup and takedown of events, including intercollegiate games, intramurals, and special events.
  • Oversee the maintenance, repair and/or replacement of departmental equipment.
  • Enforces Occupational Safety and Health Administration guidelines.
  • Ensures athletic facilities, equipment, and programs comply with safety standards and institutional policies.
15% Leadership & Strategic Support
  • Provides administrative support in the planning, development, implementation, operation, and evaluations of comprehensive intercollegiate and fitness center programs.
  • Supports the Director with execution of strategic plans for athletics in alignment with the college’s mission, student success goals, and equity initiatives.
  • Supports the Director with budget planning, procurement, and resource allocation for all athletic programs.
  • Ensures compliance with NJCAA, MD JUCO, Title IX, and institutional policies.
  • Provides initial assessment, prevention strategies, and treatment for minor sports-related
  • Assist the Director of Athletics with departmental planning, assessment, and compliance efforts.
  • Serve as a key advisor on fitness and facility needs and recommend improvements to programs, spaces, and operations.
  • Represent the department on college committees and during public engagements or athletic events.
15% Backup & Emergency Response
  • Serve as the acting Director of Athletics in the absence of the Director.
  • Respond to emergencies and manage incidents involving the fitness center or athletic facilities.
  • Ensure compliance with college policies, risk management protocols, and state/federal safety guidelines.
  • Assists the Director in preparing risk management, assessment, and inspection plans for the gym, fitness center, athletic fields, and equipment in concert with the fitness center and athletic coordinators.
10% Administrative Responsibilities
  • Serves as a visible leader and ambassador for the athletics department at college events, community functions, and external meetings.
  • Assist in developing and managing operating budgets for fitness and athletic facility operations.
  • Monitor and report on facility usage, programming participation, and student engagement.
  • Ensure recordkeeping for staff certifications, equipment inspections, and injury/incident reports.
  • Assists Director of Athletics and Fitness with the planning of the athletic teams’ schedule.
  • Assist with the scheduling of all athletic team’s transportation.
  • Assist with submitting National Letter of Intents for all eight (8) athletic teams.
Required Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Athletic Administration, Exercise Science, Sports Management, or a related field; Master’s preferred.
  • Minimum of (2) years of progressively responsible experience in athletics or fitness center management, preferably in a higher education setting.
  • Experience supervising staff, managing facilities, and coordinating fitness/wellness programs.

Licenses or Certifications:
  • Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification required.
  • National fitness certification (e.g., ACSM, NASM, NSCA, ACE) strongly preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Familiarity with NCAA, NJCAA, or NAIA governing rules
  • Working knowledge of athletic facility operations, event management, and student programming.
  • Proficiency with scheduling and fitness center software, Microsoft Office, and facility management tools.
  • Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends, as required by the athletic schedule.
  • Demonstrated experience with record keeping and program administration.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse population with wide variety of needs.
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with college student constituencies & diverse populations in an effective manner.
