Position Summary

Elon University Athletics is seeking a dynamic and creative individual to serve as the Assistant Director of Athletic Communications. This position will serve as the primary communications contact for assigned sports, overseeing all media relations, publicity, and content creation efforts for these programs. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in sports information, with the ability to contribute to the creative services aspects of the department.

Minimum Required Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, public relations, or a related field.
• 1-3 years of experience in athletic communications, media relations, or sports information at the collegiate level.
• Strong writing, editing, and organizational skills, with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
• Knowledge of StatCrew, NCAA Live Stats, and other statistical software.
• Ability to work nights, weekends, and travel as required.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across multiple departments.

Preferred Education and Experience

• Experience in graphic design, video editing, and photography within an athletics setting.
• Knowledge of website management systems (e.g., SIDEARM Sports, WordPress, or similar CMS platforms).

Job Duties

  • Serve as the primary Sports Information Director (SID) for assigned sports, handling all media relations, press releases, statistics, and game-day operations.
    • Develop and execute comprehensive media strategies to promote student-athletes, coaches, and teams.
    • Maintain and update team pages on the official athletics website with accurate statistics, rosters, schedules, bios, and news articles.
  • Coordinate and manage social media content for assigned sports, working closely with creative services to enhance digital engagement.
    • Produce and distribute press releases, game recaps, and feature stories highlighting student-athletes and team accomplishments.
    • Serve as the primary point of contact for local, regional, and national media, arranging interviews and media opportunities.
  • Oversee game day operations, including stat crew coordination, press box management, and postgame media availability.
    • Assist in the creation of graphics, video content, and other creative assets to enhance storytelling and brand presence.
    • Collaborate with the creative team to develop photo, video, and social media strategies that align with department-wide branding efforts. -
  • Nominate and promote student-athletes for conference and national awards.
    • Provide support for other sports and department-wide initiatives as needed.
  • Complies with all University and CAA regulations, as well as all NCAA rules and regulations. Remains current with all changes in NCAA, as well as changes to University and CAA rules and regulations regarding intercollegiate athletics. This includes the requirement for self-reporting any possible rule violations and participation in the annual NCAA continuing education programs including passing the NCAA certification test, if applicable. Any violation of NCAA rules is prohibited.
