Job summary

NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi seeks an experienced Nursing Administrator to supervise the planning, organization, and evaluation of nursing services and education programs across a major clinical unit. This role works under general supervision to manage staffing, budgets, patient care processes, and clinical education to support high-quality care delivery.

Responsibilities include developing policies, coordinating with departments, participating in quality assurance, and leading nursing staff

Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Nursing Administration or related nursing discipline; or Bachelor's Degree in Nursing with 4 years of clinical nursing experience including supervisory responsibility.
  • Administrative or supervisory experience in nursing management, with oversight of department or unit operations.
  • May require Basic Life Support (BLS) per assignment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in planning, organizing, directing, coordinating and evaluating nursing service and education programs.
  • Develop and implement policies, objectives and standards for nursing service and education.
  • Prepare budgets for personnel, supplies and equipment.
  • Plan and conduct nursing education programs and oversee staff performance.
  • Attend staff meetings and participate in quality assurance activities.
  • Coordinate nursing services across major clinical divisions or home care as assigned.

Duties & Responsibilities

Purpose of Position: Under general supervision of the Associate Director of Nursing, assists with the planning, organizing, directing, coordinating and evaluating of nursing service and education programs of the hospital, diagnostic and treatment center, or a major unit within the Department of Nursing. Performs related work.

Examples Of Typical Tasks
  • Assists in developing policies, objectives and standards of nursing service and education.
  • Assists in the preparation of personnel, supply and equipment budgets.
  • Assists in the development of administrative procedures and programs of patient care.
  • May have responsibility for planning, organizing, directing, coordinating and evaluating the nursing service in a major clinical division, or a home health agency in a hospital, participating in selection, placement and follow-up of patients transferred to homes.
  • Assists with the planning, organization and conduct of a nursing education program.
  • May assume responsibility for planning, directing, coordinating and evaluating nursing service on the evening and night tours.
  • Directs activities of Supervisor of Nurses.
  • Prepares and makes periodic and daily reports on administrative matters relating to staff and patient management.
  • Participates in the direction and implementation of a quality assurance program for nursing.
  • Attends and chairs regular staff meetings with nursing personnel.
  • Assesses nursing services by making rounds, conducting chart review and evaluating patient care.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Valid New York State license and current registration to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State; and
  • Master's Degree from an accredited college or university in Nursing Administration or a related nursing discipline; and three (3) years of satisfactory nursing experience, one (1) year of which must have been in an administrative or supervisory capacity, which may include managing a specific department or nursing unit within a hospital or health care setting, overseeing patient care, staff management and the day-to-day operations of the department, as well as demonstrating clinical competency in relevant clinical area; or
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Nursing; and four (4) years of satisfactory nursing experience (i.e., clinical care), two (2) years of which must have been in a clinical supervisory capacity (i.e., Head Nurse, Supervisor experience), as well as demonstrating clinical competency in relevant clinical area.
  • May require Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA) depending on assignment/health care setting. If required, BLS must be obtained within sixty (60) calendar days of appointment to the title and maintained for the duration of the assignment.
