Job summary

NYC Health + Hospitals is seeking a Nursing Administrator to lead nursing services, education programs, and policy implementation in a major hospital unit. Under the Associate Director of Nursing, you will coordinate planning, organization, and evaluation of nursing services and education across departments.

The role requires NYS licensure as a professional nurse, a Master’s in Nursing Administration or equivalent, and significant supervisory or teaching experience.

Qualifications

• Licensed and currently registered to practice as a Professional Nurse in New York State.
• Master’s Degree in Nursing Administration, Education, Clinical Specialty or equivalent field with five years of satisfactory nursing experience, including supervisory or teaching roles.
• Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing with six years of satisfactory nursing experience, four years in supervisory or teaching capacity.
• Equivalent combination of education and experience accepted, provided licensure is current.

Responsibilities

• Assist in developing policies, objectives and standards of nursing service and education.
• Assist in budget preparation for personnel, supply and equipment.
• Develop administrative procedures and programs of patient care.
• May plan, direct, coordinate and evaluate nursing service in a major clinical division or home health setting.
• Assist with planning, organizing and conducting a nursing education program.
• May supervise evening and night nursing services.
• Direct activities of Supervisors of Nurses.
• Prepare periodic and daily administrative reports related to staff and patient management.
• Participate in quality assurance program implementation for nursing.
• Attend and chair regular staff meetings with nursing personnel.
• Assess nursing services by rounds, chart review and evaluating patient care.

Duties & Responsibilities

Purpose of Position:

Under general supervision of the Associate Director of Nursing, assists with the planning, organizing, directing, coordinating and evaluating of nursing service and education programs of the hospital, diagnostic and treatment center, or a major unit within the Department of Nursing. Performs related work.

Examples Of Typical Tasks

• Assists in developing policies, objectives and standards of nursing service and education.
• Assists in the preparation of personnel, supply and equipment budgets.
• Assists in the development of administrative procedures and programs of patient care.
• May have responsibility for planning, organizing, directing, coordinating and evaluating the nursing service in a major clinical division, or a home health agency in a hospital, participating in selection, placement and follow-up of patients transferred to homes.
• Assists with the planning, organization and conduct of a nursing education program.
• May assume responsibility for planning, directing, coordinating and evaluating nursing service on the evening and night tours.
• Directs activities of Supervisor of Nurses.
• Prepares and makes periodic and daily reports on administrative matters relating to staff and patient management.
• Participates in the direction and implementation of a quality assurance program for nursing.
• Attends and chairs regular staff meetings with nursing personnel.
• Assess nursing services by making rounds, conducting chart review and evaluating patient care.

Minimum Qualifications

• Licensed and currently registered to practice as a professional nurse in New York State, plus (2) or (3), below.
• Master’s Degree in Nursing Administration, Education, Clinical Specialty or equivalent field and five years of satisfactory nursing experience, of which three years shall have been in a supervisory or teaching capacity; or a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing and six years of satisfactory nursing experience, four years of which shall have been in a supervisory or teaching capacity.
• A satisfactory equivalent of education and experience. However, all candidates must be licensed and currently registered to practice as a Professional Nurse in New York State.
