Under the direction of the Director of the Office of Belonging and Inclusion, the Assistant Director develops, coordinates, and assesses the Men's Success Initiative (MSI) and the Muslim Student Resource and Puvungna Student Resource Centers (PSC). The position designs and implements programs, services, and retention strategies that promote access, engagement, academic success, leadership development, and graduation for students from historically underserved communities, with a particular focus on male students and students connected to the Muslim and Indigenous/Native American communities. The Assistant Director leads initiatives that enhance student outreach, retention, inclusion, leadership, career readiness, and overall student success. Responsibilities include developing study groups, workshops, mentoring programs, retreats, campus and community partnerships, and co-curricular programming that support student achievement and help close opportunity and achievement gaps. The incumbent collaborates across Student Affairs, Academic Affairs, the university, and external partners to provide academic and career guidance, connect students with resources, and foster a sense of belonging. The position also plans and implements educational, cultural, and social events; supports student organizations; and advances leadership development opportunities.
Using a student-centered and equity-minded approach, the Assistant Director provides culturally responsive services that support the academic success and well-being of a diverse student population. The position is responsible for collecting and analyzing program data, evaluating outcomes, and supporting the achievement of departmental and divisional goals related to student engagement, retention, and graduation.

Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources.
Hiring Range: The hiring range for this position is $5,540 - $6,009 per month commensurate with candidate's education, experience, skills, and training.
CSU Classification Salary Range: The CSU Classification Salary Range for this position is $5,540 - $7,893 per month.

Experience in academic advising, counseling, and career planning with diverse student populations. Experience working with male students of color in higher education. Knowledge of academic, social, and emotional problems confronting students, especially young men, from diverse backgrounds. Interpersonal communication skills to clearly and effectively interact with individuals of varying ages and cultural backgrounds and effectively resolve disagreements and conflicts. Strong oral and written communication skills and ability to communicate skillfully and effectively with a diverse population. Experience with developing and coordinating enrichment activities, academic workshops, and events.
Demonstrated ability to garner the support of key stakeholders and lead an effective team. Experience designing and carrying out assessment and research projects. Experience writing progress, summary and end of the year reports of program activities. Excellent active listening, interpersonal and conflict resolution skills. Knowledge of school and academic program principles and standards (admissions, registration, financial aid) to make effective judgments. Skills in Microsoft Office Suite (including Excel, PowerPoint, Visio) and Adobe software to ensure that incumbent will be able to prepare a wide variety of correspondence, reports, forms, brochures, flyers, agendas, minutes, advertisements and text for printed materials and web pages. Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, Adobe Contribute and html would be a plus.

Equivalent to a bachelor's degree with upper or graduate coursework in counseling and guidance, human relations, or related fields and three years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas required.
Master's degree preferably in student affairs, higher education administration, college student personnel, social work, counseling, or a related field.
3 years of professionally related experience working with male students of color preferred.
Possess a valid California Driver's License to drive University vehicle, preferred.
Medium work - Job involves lifting heavy weight objects (20-40 pounds) and/or 20% - 40% of the job involves standing, squatting, kneeling, or walking. May require pushing or pulling objects within the weight limits.
