General Information:


The Assistant Director for Residential Well-being serves as a member of the Well Dukes team, responsible for the development, implementation, and assessment of the residential well-being experience. The position reports to the Director of Well Dukes and collaborates with campus and community support services to deliver population-based education and consultation.


Duties and Responsibilities:


  1. Assist Student Affairs with strategic planning, implementation, and assessment of the JMU residential well-being experience aligning with divisional and departmental mission, vision, and values.
  2. Build and maintain partnerships with the Office of Residence Life and other campus experts to develop a multidisciplinary network enhancing the residential well-being experience.
  3. Develop holistic initiatives and services based on the JMU Model of Well-being dimensions: Purpose, Learning, Environment, Relationships, Health, and Security.
  4. Support campus-wide initiatives of a Health Promoting Campus.
  5. Recruit, hire, orient, and supervise relevant staff.
  6. Oversee administrative functions supporting residential well-being, including scheduling, tracking, and reporting.
  7. Manage financial resources of initiatives, ensuring compliance with good practices and policies.
  8. Design inclusive practices, policies, and services to promote equity and inclusion.

Qualifications:


Required Experience:


  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • At least two years of progressively responsible experience, including supervisory and training roles.
  • Knowledge of college student well-being needs, environmental management, health behavior theories, and evidence-based practices.
  • Experience in outcome development and assessment.
  • Ability to stay current in public health, health promotion, and college health trends.
  • Strong project management skills and ability to work under deadlines.
  • Collaborative skills to develop shared well-being outcomes.
  • Experience working with diverse communities and providing inclusive services.
  • Knowledge of compliance with regulations and legal requirements.

Preferred Experience:


  • Master's degree in a relevant field.
  • Certifications such as MCHES, CHES, or CPH, or eligibility to obtain them.
  • Four or more years of relevant experience, including supervision.
  • Experience in higher education settings.
  • Application of evidence-informed health promotion theories.
  • Experience working with coalitions or organizations.
  • Budget management experience.
