About the Role

Boston University’s Financial Assistance Office seeks an organized, detail-oriented, and collaborative professional to join our team as the Assistant Director of Compliance. This position plays a key role in ensuring adherence to federal, state, and institutional regulations governing the administration of student financial aid. Reporting to the Sr. Assistant Director, the Assistant Director coordinates core compliance functions, monitors regulatory changes, and works closely with university partners and external agencies.

The Assistant Director’s primary responsibilities include:

  • Coordinating the federal verification process to ensure complete and accurate documentation is received and reviewed before disbursing federal aid
  • Reviewing and verifying student citizenship status, including collaboration with the Department of Homeland Security when necessary
  • Performing Return of Title IV (R2T4) calculations for students who withdraw or take a leave of absence, ensuring compliance with federal regulations
  • Processing late disbursements and adjusting federal and institutional aid as needed for withdrawn students
  • Monitoring the student information system and office inbox for updated tax documentation; ensure timely data entry and workflow updates in MyBU
  • Processing federal tax documents and ISIR corrections
  • Maintaining internal policies and procedures to reflect current federal, state, and institutional financial aid guidelines

This position is eligible for up to 3 days of remote work per week, dependent on performance and responsibilities.

Boston University Financial Assistance is part of the Enrollment & Student Administration unit (ENSA). BU Financial Assistance plays a critical role in ENSA’s mission; enrolling and retaining students, securing external funding and generating tuition revenue through strategic discounting. BU Financial Assistance provides important services through timely and accurate review of financial aid applications, awarding of financial aid funds, processing of loans, and by providing counseling to students and parents on the financial aid process, programs and related issues.

About the Candidate

A Bachelor’s Degree is required for this position. We are seeking a candidate who:

  • Has at least one year of previous experience in a similar role
  • Is an effective problem solver;
  • Displays excellent interpersonal and written/oral communication skills;
  • Has the ability to manage multiple and competing deadlines;
  • Works well independently and in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment;
  • Working knowledge of federal and state financial aid policies, procedures, and regulations are preferred but not required.
  • Experience using PeopleSoft Campus Solutions is a plus.
