Job summary

New Mexico State University in Las Cruces seeks an Assistant Director of Competitive Sports and Outdoor to lead three high-impact program areas: Intramural Sports, Sport Clubs, and the Outdoor Recreation Office. You will supervise staff and students and ensure safety and compliance.

The role manages budgets, develops policies and training to support student engagement and growth, and partners with students to provide safe, dynamic recreational opportunities on campus.

Qualifications

• Associate’s Degree with 4+ years relevant experience or Bachelor's with 2+ years.
• Supervises staff and student employees; oversees intramural, sport clubs, outdoor rec programs.
• Oversees risk management and safety compliance; manages program budgets and resources.
• Develops and implements policies and training standards to support student engagement and safety.
• Ensures student engagement, safety, and program growth.

Responsibilities

• Provides leadership and oversight for Intramural Sports, Sport Clubs, and the Outdoor Recreation Office.
• Hires, trains and oversees staff for the outdoor center; directs the climbing wall and outdoor rentals.
• Works with sport clubs to meet NMSU policy and procedures and assists with operations.
• Creates, implements and directs intramural program; works with student staff to host events.
• Develops and implements policies and training standards to support student engagement, safety, and long-term growth.
