Job summary

RiseBoro Community Partnership in New York, NY seeks an Assistant Director to support the Program Director in delivering high-quality afterschool programming for youth. You will supervise staff, coordinate activities, and ensure funder compliance.

Lead outreach to partner schools, manage enrollment and retention, organize trainings, and assist with reporting and events while upholding an inclusive program culture.

Qualifications

  • Must have at least two years of experience working with youth in a non-profit setting; supervisory experience preferred.
  • Be team oriented and able to collaborate across teams to achieve program goals.
  • Organized, detail oriented, able to multitask, take initiative, and work independently on tasks.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite and basic data management.
  • Bilingual Spanish/English preferred; SACC credentials in progress.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Program Director with outreach and recruitment to partner schools.
  • Maintain programmatic data in funder systems and ensure accurate daily attendance.
  • Assist with organizing and executing parent and participant orientations.
  • Support staff training and orientation; evaluate staff performance.
  • Oversee program staff in the Program Director's absence and ensure activities run smoothly.
  • Coordinate participant files, verify compliance with funder/DOH requirements, and document incidents.
  • Monitor student retention and develop engagement strategies across activities.
  • Prepare funder program reports and assist with special events and field trips.
  • Inform Program Director of issues and provide written statements as needed.
  • Collaborate with partner schools to align afterschool with school-day operations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESThe Assistant Director will be responsible for assisting the Program Director with the overall smooth and effective functioning of the program. Responsibilities and duties include:Assist Program Director with conducting outreach and recruitment efforts to partner schools; ensure enrollment and participation goals are metMaintain programmatic data in funder database adhering to prescribed deadlines; develop and adhere to systems that ensure for the accurate collection of daily attendanceAssist Program Director with organizing and executing parent and participant orientationsAssist Program Director with training program staff and orienting them to their respective roles and responsibilities within the program structure; evaluate staff performance, motivate, coach and counsel staff to excelAssist Program Director with ensuring that all participant files are maintained in a thorough manner, are updated as needed and maintained in accordance with funder, SACC and DOH requirementsIn absence of Program Director, responsible for oversight and supervision of program staff, participants and implementation of program activitiesProvide positive and enthusiastic leadership and direction to team to ensure the delivery of high-quality programmingWork with participants to effectively and appropriately resolve any incidents. Communicate with parents as appropriateClosely monitor student retention; develop and implement alternative ways of keeping participants engaged in all program activitiesAlong with Program Director, network and collaborate with partner schools to ensure for smooth program operation and continued alignment between afterschool and school dayAssist Program Director with preparing required funder program reports and ensure all program reports and verification tools are submitted on a timely basisAssist Program Director with planning, coordinating, and supervising special events, projects, and field tripsAttend funder sponsored meetings, trainings and workshops according to program mandatesAssist Program Director with oversight and implementation of Mental Health Supports ensuring staff compliance with one-hour training requirements covering mental health awareness, engagement and de-escalation, crisis response protocols and mental health resourcesMeet and document required SACC training hours for all program staff on a yearly basisEnsure program participants have every possible resource to attain their goalsWhen needed, assist with recruitment and hiring of new qualified staffEnsure all milestones and outcomes are metProvide participant referrals and follow-up as necessarySubmit supply requests to meet programmatic needsInform Program Director of any issues that may arise and provide written statements as necessaryComplete other assignments as directed by Program Director and program administrationCOMPETENCIESMust have at least two years of experience working with youth in non-profit setting; at least one year of supervisory experience is preferred.Must have a genuine passion for working with youth and be willing to go above and beyond program mandates for benefit of childrenMust be team oriented, working well with others to inspire successMust be organized, detail oriented, able to multitask, take imitative, and work independently on tasksAbility to effectively prioritize responsibilities, as well as set and meet deadlinesStrong communication and interpersonal skillsProficiency in MS Office SuiteBilingual Spanish/English preferredMust be working on obtaining SACC credentialsEDUCATION and EXPERIENCEAny combination equivalent to education and experience that provides the required knowledge and skills may be considered qualifying:A School-Age Child Care Credential or other Office-recognized credential specific to the school-age developmental period and two years of direct experience working with children less than 13 years of age, including at least one year in a supervisory capacity in a childcare program or related field of work preferred; orHigh School Diploma/HSE and 4 years of relevant experience1 year of supervisory experience requiredIt is the policy of RiseBoro to provide equal employment opportunity to all employees and applicants for employment.
