The Assistant Director of Athletics will serve on the athletic leadership team advising the Assistant Vice President and Director of Athletics on departmental matters and strategic and development planning. This person will have formal supervisory responsibilities for multiple employees, identified athletic programs, and additional areas that fosters athletic success and academic excellence within the department. The Assistant Director of Athletics will be responsible for all NCAA Compliance, serve as a gameday management supervisor, and will provide a variety of training for student-athletes and staff. Additionally, this candidate will assist in achieving annual departmental fundraising goals, commit to supporting the holistic student-athlete with special consideration to mental health and overall wellness of student-athletes, and demonstrate a collaborative management style to work across campus with all constituencies of the College.

Key Outcomes

30 % of Time: Supervise and oversight of male athletic programs, which includes mentoring and program development and other assigned duties.

  • Hires, orients, trains, supervises, mentors, and evaluates coaching staff.
  • Provides primary oversight of assigned programs.
  • Oversees annual recruiting plans for each sport to ensure effective roster management and recruitment is occurring.
  • Responsible for all Conference and NCAA postseason activities to the assigned athletic programs.
  • Oversees mid-year and annual assessments of assigned intercollegiate programs and shares appropriately with the Director of Athletics.


30 % of Time : Manage all aspects of NCAA and conference compliance for the athletics program, ensuring strict adherence to rules and regulations across eligibility, recruiting, playing/practice seasons, and enforcement.

  • Daily Operations : Oversee daily compliance operations, including maintaining and monitoring systems that support institutional integrity and student-athlete eligibility.
  • Monitoring & Reporting : Develop and implement monitoring mechanisms to track compliance; prepare and submit required NCAA institutional reports and documentation.
  • Education & Interpretation : Provide rule interpretations to coaches, staff, and student-athletes; coordinate and deliver comprehensive educational programming and resources related to NCAA and conference rules.
  • Eligibility Certification : Create and manage processes for initial and continuing eligibility certification for all student-athletes in accordance with NCAA standards.

30 % of Time : Lead and Supervise Athletic Events: Oversee NCAA Division III athletic competitions and selected club sports events, ensuring smooth and efficient operations.
  • Event Operations : Provide oversight of selected game days as part of our gameday management team, providing on-site leadership and coordination for all aspects of event execution, including setup, in-game logistics, and post-event breakdown.
  • Student Staff Supervision : Direct and support student workers, assigning roles and ensuring quality performance throughout events.
  • Ticketing Operations : Assist with ticketing procedures at select events, including sales, entry management, and troubleshooting customer issues.


10 % of Time: In close collaboration with the Office of Admission, establish recruiting goals for each varsity and club athletic program.
  • Collaborate with coaches and admission staff on recruiting efforts

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • Master's degree in sports management, education, business administration, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in athletics administration and or head coaching at the collegiate level.
  • Experience with NCAA compliance.
  • Knowledge of recruitment and admissions process
  • Experience in hiring, supervising and managing staff
  • A successful and proven track record of successful leadership.
  • Knowledge of the Division III higher education landscape, athletic and recreation administration, fundraising practices, and principles of student-athlete health and well-being.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with ability to engage diverse stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Strong organizational skills with ability to manage multiple priorities.
