Muhlenberg College is seeking a full-time Assistant Director of Athletic Communications. This role involves managing game-day operations and promoting athletic programs through various digital communication channels. The Office of Communications and Marketing is seeking applicants for a full-time, year-round Assistant Director of Athletic Communications (OCM). This individual will report to the Senior Director of Strategic Communications and collaborate closely with colleagues in OCM, the Department of Athletics, the Office of Advancement, and other Muhlenberg College departments and divisions on publicity/communications efforts relating to the college’s 23 Division III varsity intercollegiate programs. The assistant director works within OCM department processes, applying best practices and sustaining the department’s commitment to professionalism, collegiality, superior quality, and the advancement of the Muhlenberg brand. In collaborating closely with colleagues across the college, the assistant director will make a meaningful contribution to the college’s work in building brand awareness and other critical outcomes among important external Muhlenberg constituencies. Primary responsibilities include: creating and promoting dynamic content on the college’s websites and social media accounts; collaboratively managing game day operations, including live streaming video and live stats; editing promotional videos; producing features on Muhlenberg athletes; assisting in email marketing efforts; supporting alumni engagement and fundraising initiatives; reporting results; and collaborating in the production of print, web, video and other communications/marketing content.
Characteristic Responsibilities:
Sports Information
Collaboratively manage game-day operations, including streaming, live stats, photography and videography.
Report game-day results across channels and media.
Recruit, supervise, and train students, including content creators and interns.
Cover major events with video from a storytelling perspective, such as season previews and team outreach efforts in the community.
Promote intercollegiate athletic events both on and off campus to encourage attendance.
Travel and adapt to varying schedules, including evening and weekend hours, in accordance with the needs of the position.
May perform other duties as assigned.
Marketing and Public Relations
Work closely with the Director of Athletic Communications and others to ensure positive publicity for the athletics program and the college.
Collaborate with Office of Communications and Marketing colleagues in digital marketing efforts.
Support colleagues across the college in efforts to engage alumni, donors, parents, and other important constituents.
Publish content to MuhlenbergSports.com and muhlenberg.edu .
Contribute to Muhlenberg’s athletics social media presence and provide guidance and support for individual teams.
Stay up to date with digital media technologies and latest trends and assess new/additional digital channels for implementation.
Partner closely with Office of Communications and Marketing colleagues to share potential stories ideas and opportunities to be produced and promoted on college-wide channels.
Provide local, regional and national media with stories, scores and excerpts to promote Muhlenberg College athletics.
While no one person may possess all the qualifications listed below, the ideal candidate will have many of the following professional experiences and characteristics:
Bachelor’s degree required.
Solid understanding of sports and sports statistics.
Demonstrated experience in athletics communications and digital media.
Strong writing and communication skills.
Initiative and good news sense.
Strong attention to detail and effective time management skills.
Digital media literacy, including knowledge of athletics/statistical software (StatCrew, Presto stats, NLS) and desktop publishing software (InDesign, Photoshop, video streaming and video editing and experience/familiarity with editing website content.
Experience using email marketing platforms.
