Individuals desiring to be considered for this position must submit a resume and cover letter to hr_analyst@vhi.org describing your leadership style, technical fluency, and interest in VHI’s mission before June 15th, 2025.

About VHI:

Virginia Health Information (VHI) is a nonprofit organization improving healthcare through the collection, connection, and reporting of meaningful data. VHI administers Virginia’s All-Payer Claims Database (APCD), Patient Level Discharge Database (PLD) and statewide Health Information Exchange (HIE), including the Emergency Department Care Coordination (EDCC) program. VHI also operates the Efficiency and Productivity Information Collection System (EPICS), which powers key statewide data products such as the hospital and nursing home industry reports and the annual licensure survey dataset. VHI also publishes the statewide charity care dashboard, the Rx drug pricing transparency dashboard and the emergency department utilization by severity dashboard. Our data and insights support decision-making across healthcare, public health and policy.

Position Summary:

VHI is seeking a strategic, collaborative, and people-centered Assistant Director of Analytics & Reporting Services to lead a core function responsible for transforming raw health data into accessible, high-quality insights, while ensuring operational excellence in regulated data submissions and intake.

This role oversees two key functional areas:

  • Analytics & Reporting Services (ARS): Management of the All-Payer Claims Database (APCD), Patient Level Discharge Database (PLD), statewide dashboards, and client-facing reporting deliverables.
  • Reporting Program Operations (RPO): Oversight of regulated data intake programs submitted through VHI’s data reporting portal (DRP), including QA processes, submitter support, and operational compliance.

The Assistant Director supervises analytics staff, the Manager of Reporting Program Operations, and external consultants, and is responsible for maintaining high standards of data quality, operational execution, and product delivery. This role bridges technical expertise with leadership acumen, empowering a mission-driven team to deliver impact through data.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and coach analytics staff, the Manager of Reporting Program Operations and external consultants
  • Provide leadership development and operational coaching to mid-level managers and team leads
  • Foster a unified team culture across ARS and RPO, emphasizing collaboration, accountability and continuous improvement
  • Develop and implement onboarding, training and team processes
  • Manage the APCD, PLD, and Reporting Program Operations portfolios
  • Oversee vendor relationships for analytics infrastructure, submission platforms (e.g., DRP/EPICS) and data QA support
  • Lead monthly APCD data release committee meetings and coordinate bi-annual APCD advisory committee meetings
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure effective program operations and innovation

Reporting Operations & Deliverables

  • Oversee the design, production, and/or QA of key statewide data products, including, but not limited to:
  • Hospital and nursing home industry reports
  • Statewide charity care dashboard
  • Rx drug pricing transparency dashboard
  • Emergency department utilization by severity dashboard
  • Support the Reporting Program Operations team in ensuring high-quality, compliant data submissions and intake for required reporting programs

Strategic Collaboration & Communication

  • Recommend innovations to improve data intake, validation, analytics and reporting workflows
  • Review and advise on data structures, visualizations and methodologies
  • Recommend tools, automation opportunities and contractor support as needed

Qualifications & Experience:

  • 5+ years of experience in data analytics, health data or a related field
  • 2+ years of supervisory experience with a proven record of staff development and retention
  • Familiarity with healthcare reporting programs and regulatory data submissions
  • Experience managing data programs, reporting processes and/or external vendors
