About the Department
Alumni Relations and Development (ARD) engages alumni (~220k), current
students, parents and friends of the University through intellectual,
professional and social activities on campus, around the world and
online. ARD raises $600 Million annually to support faculty and
researchers, practitioners and patients, and students and programs
across the University. Our work supports priorities in every division,
school, department, and institute.
Job Summary
This role administers programs and fundraisers designed to engage the
alumni community worldwide, increase participation, and advance the
objectives of the Alumni Associations, the broader University and
divisional alumni initiatives. Works with the Alumni Board of Governors
or other divisional groups to create and implement guidelines to govern
shared interest groups through receiving a moderate level of guidance
and direction.
Responsibilities
– Assists with the creation and execution of plans for UChicago Alumni
signature and universal experiences with a focus on strengthening
connections between alumni and the University; deepening alumni
pride; and enhancing and expanding engagement opportunities for the
global UChicago alumni community.
– Serves as primary point of contact for program participants,
responding to all phone, email, and mail inquires.
– Develops and strengthens key relationships with internal and
external teams in order to create and execute best-in-class
engagement experiences that strengthen alumni affinity, build
community, and increase alumni awareness of the University.
– Manages the planning, coordination, implementation, and evaluation
of a variety of in-person, virtual, and hybrid signature
experiences.
– Tracks expenses, income, program budgets, reporting on and analyzing
expenses and revenue.
– Manages the planning of event communications and promotions,
including invitations, promotional materials, and invitation and
registration list management.
– Facilitates proactive data pulls, reports, and lists. Completes
proactive analyses of events. Assesses trends and presents findings.
Tracks survey data and analyzes results. Makes recommendations based
on these analyses. Maintains records and files, and updates database
regularly.
– Leverages a variety of resources to develop and maintain a deep
understanding of University priorities, faculty research, campus
traditions, and to track notable alumni. Uses this knowledge to
shape signature experiences with a focus on increasing alumni
awareness of, and fluency in, University priorities.
– Seeks opportunities for professional development that will enhance
job performance including attending webinars, seminars, building
networks within the University and with colleagues at peer
institutions.
– Develops, plans, implements and maintains alumni programs and
volunteer activities that connect students and alumni in any
existing or new alumni clubs and formed committees.
– Identifies, cultivates, and trains volunteers and alumni leaders to
help with committees and design programs to engage students and
alumni in meaningful ways to advance objectives of the alumni
association and broader University.
– Performs other related work as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
Education:
Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related
field.
Work Experience:
Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through 2-5
years of work experience in a related job discipline.

Education:
– Bachelor’s degree.
– Advanced degree.
Experience:
– Minimum two years of professional work experience in event, meeting,
or conference planning; development; alumni relations; or similar
field.
– Background working with faculty and university leadership.
Technical Skills or Knowledge:
– Demonstrated skill and knowledge of, or ability to learn quickly,
the internal workings of the University as well as the technology
tools available to the Office of Alumni Relations and Development,
including the University’s donor relationship management system.
– Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
– Proficient with Salesforce CRM.
