The Academic Success Center (ASC) empowers students to realize their academic goals and personal potential by delivering student-centered support grounded in excellence, collaboration, and innovation through intentional tutoring, coaching, and skill-building programs that foster an environment of learning and promote persistence, achievement, and holistic student success.
The Assistant Director (AD) of the Academic Success Center, is a leadership position within the unit. The AD develops and monitors peer education programs, workshops, and academic enhancement opportunities while cultivating positive relationships with students, faculty, and staff. Reporting to the Director of ASC, the AD also serves as primary administrator of technology systems and provides leadership and assistance in data collection, management, web-based technology, and reporting. The AD provides supervision for full time Academic Success Coaches (professional staff) in the department.
The duties include but are not limited to:
SUPPORT THE GOALS OF THE ASC: Collaborates and communicates with faculty regarding subject matter content to ensure tutoring supports academic course content. Works with Peer Educators (PE) to provide workshops for students on topics such as study strategies, time management, and test preparation. Provides feedback and follow-up with faculty on student progress. In conjunction with the Director, serving as liaison and collaborating with appropriate University programs, services, organizations to develop programming to promote students' academic success.
ENGAGE IN DATA COLLECTION AND DEVELOP PROGRESS REPORTS: Assesses impact and effectiveness of ASC programming through data collection and analysis. Contributes content to assessment plans and reports. Creates regular reports on tutoring services.
DEVELOP A VIRTUAL PRESENCE FOR ASC: Develops online learning modules in academic specialty field to supplement general education coursework. Creates and maintains academic web content for workshops/seminars etc.
ENGAGE WITH STUDENTS TO PROMOTE ACADEMIC SUCCESS SKILLS: Contributes to development and submission of proposals to support tutoring, mentoring, and other programs that increase retention, persistence, and academic success of students. Provides one-on-one and group workshops in academic content areas. Provide one-on-one support to students in academic life skills as needed. Teaches a minimum of two ASII 1101 Learning for Success courses a year.
MANAGE ACADEMIC SUCCESS PROGRAMMING: Manages full-time professional staff including assigning student caseloads, responsibilities, mentoring, and performance evaluations. Serves as primary coordinator for activities related to undergraduate academic success, including PE tutoring schedule, Course Learning Assistants (CLAs), workshops in special topics, PE training and regular staff meetings with PE, open houses, and other events. Hires, trains, mentors, evaluates performance, and supervises PE for the assigned subjects. Organizes tutoring and course learning assistant schedules each semester. Works with the Director of the CLA to continually develop the quality of peer education and new initiatives that promote learning and the persistence of students in math and science courses. Develops and maintains a tutoring program for academic programs. Develops and implements effective processes for student-tutors including recruitment, screening, orientations, pedagogical training programs, and professional development. Develop a comprehensive tutoring schedule. Manages tutor work schedules and provides ongoing supervision for large tutoring staff. Works closely with Innovation in Student Success and Engagement Office Coordinator for payroll and documentation of student tutors.
OTHER : Perform other duties as assigned.
Master's degree from an accredited college or university in education, social sciences, public administration, STEM or related field.
Minimum of five years of experience working with students in higher education, such as classroom instruction, Academic Student Support, Student Success Coaching, Academic Advisement, or a related field in higher education. Proficiency with personal computers, related hardware/software, web page maintenance and development. Experience with database management, such as Navigate or predictive analytics software.
KNOWLEDGE
Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases.
A thorough understanding of the liberal arts and STEM education.
Experience with BANNER, NAVIGATE, and student tracking software.

Detail-oriented with strong prioritization and organizational skills.

Shift: Days; M-F (Work outside of the normal business hours may be required)
Pay Band: B12
Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position
