Job summary

The American Veterinary Medical Association seeks an Assistant Director to join the Education & Research Division. The role targets proposing, developing and implementing AVMA policies related to veterinary research, board certification, and education.

Reporting to the Chief of Academic Affairs, Research & Accreditation, you will support governance bodies, administer the Veterinary Clinical Trials Registry, and help advance AVMA's mission while working in a flexible hybrid/remote setup with

Qualifications

• DVM/VMD is required; PhD and/or board certification in an AVMA-Recognized Veterinary Specialty Organization preferred.
• Minimum of three years' work experience.
• Demonstrated knowledge of veterinary research.
• Preferred knowledge of or experience in veterinary education.
• Excellent interpersonal & communication skills (written & verbal).
• Must be a critical thinker & problem solver.
• Ability to interact with scientific and non-scientific communities and AVMA leadership.
• Ability to manage multiple projects & meetings simultaneously.
• Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office, Teams and data management via OneDrive.
• Must be an AVMA member in good standing.

Responsibilities

• Provide primary professional staff support for the Council on Research (COR), the American Board of Veterinary Specialties (ABVS), & VSOC.
• Serve as the principal administrator of the AVMA Veterinary Clinical Trials Registry (VCT).
• Propose, develop & implement AVMA policies & programs concerning veterinary research, board certification, specialists in academia, practice & industry.
• Work closely with AVMA governance entities in the execution of duties.
• May work remotely; less than 25% travel.
• Support the Chief Officer and the division to advance AVMA's mission.

The American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), the national not-for-profit association established in 1863 & representing over 110,000 veterinarians working in private & corporate practice, government, industry, academia, & uniformed services, is seeking an Assistant Director to join our Education & Research Division. Structured to work for its members, AVMA acts as a collective voice for its membership & for the profession. Our mission is to lead the profession by advocating for our members & advancing the science & practice of veterinary medicine to improve animal & human health.

Reporting to the Chief of Academic Affairs, Research & Accreditation, the Assistant Director will perform functions to assist the Chief Officer to propose, develop & implement AVMA policies & programs concerning veterinary research, veterinary specialty board certification, specialists in academia, specialists in practice & industry, & the AVMA Veterinary Clinical Trials Registry. They will work closely with AVMA governance entities in the execution of duties.

A reasonable estimate of the current base pay range for this position is $120,000 - $140,000. Compensation decisions take into account a wide range of factors, including but not limited to relevant experience, skills, certifications, geographic location, business needs, & organizational policies. In addition to those factors, we believe in the importance of pay equity & consider internal equity of our current team members as a part of any final offer.
