Job summary

The Smithsonian Institution seeks an Assistant Director to lead the Office of Strategic Partnerships, directing strategic efforts to develop and strengthen African American museums, the African diaspora, and other national cultural heritage organizations.

You will plan and manage programs, coordinate with partners and donors, develop goals, and ensure timely execution of short- and long-term plans while delivering reports and public-facing services.

Qualifications

• One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-14 level.
• Experience coordinating short and long-term plans for museums and cultural heritage organizations.
• Ability to develop and defend policy initiatives and outreach to advance African American culture.

Responsibilities

• Plan, direct and manage OSP strategic efforts to develop and strengthen NMAAHC and other national and cultural heritage organizations.
• Act as liaison, facilitator and negotiator on timelines, purchases, equipment and space.
• Develop and finalize goals and objectives to support NMAAHC's mission and ensure execution of short- and long-term plans.
• Deliver public services and products and compile/write proposals and reports for constituents and donors.
• Represent public policy initiatives for OSP and NMAAHC with professional communities and government agencies.
• Develop cultural heritage resources and strategic collaborations with partner organizations; advise on communications, international relations, fellowships and partnerships.
• Oversee studies and programs that raise awareness and garner support for African American heritage institutions.
• Manage personnel and financial resources within federal or SI guidelines and budgets; ensure timely reporting.
• Direct Strategic Partnership staff, set performance standards, and conduct performance reviews.
• Approve personnel actions and handle conduct or discipline issues; interview and hire new staff.
• Plan and develop methodologies for achieving goals and promote team building.
