How to be Successful in the Role:
Success in this position is measured by the ability tobuild and sustain positive relationshipswith staff and the youth and families we work with. To encourage and train staff tocoach, teach and mentor young people while maintaining healthy boundaries. Keeping the safety and security of young people and staff as a priority, by creating and implementing policies and procedures using successful behavioral management skills and de-escalation techniques. Supporting staff and reinforcing a trauma informed and compassionateresponse to situations will also contribute to the success of the individual in this role.

Core Daily Responsibilities:
  • Provides leadership and assistance in supervising and coordinating the activities of detention, medical, food services, and facilities units; developing program and operational goals and objectives; determining work procedures and guidelines to meet changing conditions; preparing work schedules and determining methods for expediting workflow.
  • Coordinates and manages Detention Operations to ensure public safety and safe care and custody of young people.
  • Must develop expertise in PREA standards and promote a zero-tolerance culture toward sexual abuse and sexual harassment.
  • Develops and/or manages the development of policies and procedures which direct the operation of detention programs and services.
  • Monitors selected programs and services to ensure operating standards are met.
  • Supervises Shift Supervisors; provides leadership, guidance, facilitation, and decision making, coordinates and delegates authority as needed.
  • Acts as Liaison between Detention and School programs.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in corrections, social work, psychology, sociology, or a closely related field and five years’ experience in the juvenile justice field, Including a minimum of one year of supervisory experience. Additional education or experience which clearly indicates the ability to perform the essential functions of the position may substitute equally for the recruiting requirements.

Licenses or Certification
  • Must have a Washington State Driver's License, complete first line supervisor and management training at the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission.
