Position overview

We are seeking an experienced Assistant Deli Manager to work alongside our Deli Manager at our Melville, NY store. This fast-paced role requires a passion for food and exceptional customer service, with responsibilities including supervising deli operations, managing staff, and ensuring product quality and safety.

Responsibilities

1. Assist in daily deli operations, including meat and cheese cutting, salad preparation, and customer service.
2. Supervise employees engaged in cooking, serving, packaging, and counter operations.
3. Manage product storage, maintenance, and rotation to prevent spoilage.
4. Assist in inventory preparation and stock management.
5. Schedule and assign daily work shifts for staff.
6. Participate in interviewing, hiring, and training new employees.
7. Provide ongoing staff training on policies, customer service, and new products.
8. Handle customer and employee queries and complaints effectively.
9. Collaborate with the Deli Manager to develop sales promotion programs.
10. Ensure proper labeling of products with prices and dates.
11. Monitor stock levels to prevent overstocking or shortages.
12. Operate food preparation equipment safely and correctly.
13. Receive, unload, and stock food items properly.
14. Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
15. Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• At least 3 years of experience in a busy deli environment, with a minimum of 1 year in a management role.
• Proficiency in English (reading, speaking, understanding).
• Excellent customer service skills, multitasking, and prioritization abilities.
