Position Purpose

The Assistant Deli Manager supports the Deli Manager in overseeing all aspects of Deli Department operations to achieve sales, profitability, customer service, and operational objectives. This position assists with team leadership, food production, merchandising, inventory management, food safety compliance, and maintaining high standards of quality, freshness, and presentation throughout the department.

Key Responsibilities Department Operations

• Assist in managing daily Deli Department operations.
• Ensure deli products are properly prepared, packaged, stocked, rotated, and merchandised.
• Maintain high standards for product quality, freshness, and presentation.
• Assist with ordering, inventory management, production planning, and shrink control.
• Ensure pricing, signage, and promotional displays are accurate and properly executed.
• Maintain department cleanliness, organization, and equipment readiness.

Customer Service

• Deliver exceptional customer service and create a welcoming shopping experience.
• Assist customers with product selection, meal solutions, catering options, and special orders.
• Address customer questions and concerns promptly and professionally.
• Promote deli products, seasonal offerings, and department programs.
• Build customer loyalty through product knowledge and service excellence.

Leadership and Team Development

• Assist with hiring, onboarding, training, and coaching department associates.
• Provide daily direction and support to team members.
• Help develop schedules that support operational and customer service needs.
• Monitor workflow and adjust associate assignments based on business needs.
• Foster teamwork, accountability, and a positive work environment.
• Reinforce company policies, procedures, and customer service expectations.

Food Safety and Compliance

• Ensure compliance with all food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety requirements.
• Monitor proper food preparation, handling, labeling, storage, temperature control, and rotation procedures.
• Maintain clean and sanitary food preparation, service, storage, and sales areas.
• Ensure associates follow proper personal hygiene and food-handling practices.
• Identify and address food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety concerns.

Merchandising and Inventory

• Maintain attractive, organized, and fully stocked deli displays and service cases.
• Assist with production planning to meet customer demand while minimizing waste.
• Monitor inventory levels and assist with ordering products and supplies.
• Support promotional, seasonal, and merchandising initiatives.
• Follow proper rotation and date‑control procedures to maintain freshness and reduce shrink.

Management Support

• Support the Deli Manager in achieving department sales, productivity, shrink, and operational goals.
• Monitor department conditions and adjust priorities based on business needs.
• Communicate staffing, product, equipment, operational, and customer concerns to appropriate leadership.
• Assume department leadership responsibilities in the absence of the Deli Manager.
• Perform additional duties as assigned based on department and store needs.
