Job Description:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Assistant Deli Manager is responsible for the following duties, in addition to other tasks as assigned:

  • Provide quality customer service by greeting customers with a smile, offering assistance, suggesting alternatives when necessary, and thanking them for shopping. Maintain a positive and friendly attitude. Answer customer questions.
  • Ensure fresh, quality merchandise by using proper product handling techniques. Assist with controlling damages and minimizing product losses according to company procedures and standards.
  • Assist the Deli Manager with daily deli operations such as merchandising, ad execution, associate engagement, and customer service. Coordinate sales and merchandising plans to ensure proper stock levels and freshness. Monitor competitor activity regarding merchandising, pricing, quality, and signage.
  • Oversee department inventories by tracking weekly sales reports, product orders, and supplies to ensure successful period-end physical inventory.
  • Review work schedules and assignments, control labor costs, assist with training, recognize performance, and develop potential talent.
  • Familiarize with company policies and procedures related to operations, including checklists and reporting. Audit procedures for receiving, pricing, stock levels, freshness, and quality. Enforce proper record keeping and sanitation practices.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations concerning sanitation, food handling, health, safety, weights and measures, and labeling laws. Complete required logs and adhere to safety guidelines when using equipment and utensils.
  • Maintain smooth workflow within the department by cooperating with coworkers and supervisors. Strive for continuous improvement in job performance.
  • Perform staff duties as required and complete other tasks as directed by management.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Supervise associates within the department in partnership with or in the absence of the department manager.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

To perform this job successfully, the associate must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily, with or without accommodations. The following are the typical requirements:

Education and/or experience:

High school diploma or GED, or currently working towards one. Minimum of two years' management experience in retail, restaurant, or supermarket environments.
