Job summary

Arizona College of Nursing in Southfield, MI seeks an Assistant Dean of Nursing to oversee clinical instruction, faculty development, and student services across campuses. You will collaborate with campus leadership to ensure alignment with the college’s vision and regulatory standards.

This role requires an MSN, an active RN license, and 3+ years in clinical nursing plus 3+ years teaching in a nursing program.

What You'll Do:

The Assistant Dean of Nursing (“ADON”), reporting to the Dean of Nursing, is responsible for clinical oversight, faculty support, and/or core nursing student support at their campus within the Arizona College of Nursing system (College). They collaborate with the campus leadership team to guide decision‑making and ensure alignment with the College's vision and values.

Essential responsibilities:

The Assistant Dean of Nursing is assigned to one or more of the following essential responsibilities based on the size and needs of the campus. Assignments may change at the sole discretion of the College.

• Oversee clinical instruction

• Foster and maintain academic‑practice partnerships with clinical partners to ensure student access to expertise and application of practice through clinicians and faculty.
• Conduct site evaluations and consider feedback from the core nursing team and site contacts to evaluate the appropriateness of clinical facilities and curricular experiences for the College’s curriculum.
• Partner with the Nursing Lab Manager to plan skills and nursing lab experiences that utilize equipment to its fullest ability and prepare students for practice.
• Manage Clinical Coordinator(s) to achieve expected outcomes.

• Faculty support

• Lead workshops to develop faculty teaching skills.
• Informally and formally review and evaluate delivery of core nursing curriculum, ensuring adherence to established performance standards and regulations, with a focus on leveraging current research to provide constructive feedback for growth and improvement.
• Develop relationships with new faculty, providing resources and guidance for their success.

• Student support delivery for core nursing students

• Address student concerns, complaints, and disciplinary issues in accordance with College policies and procedures.
• Foster an environment of academic excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement within the nursing program.
• Promote student success by advising students, facilitating communication, and maintaining satisfactory relationships between students and faculty members.
• Sponsor student associations.

The Assistant Dean of Nursing must:

• Demonstrate scholarship in areas of responsibility.

• The scholarship of teaching

• Lead the delivery of assigned curriculum, set strategic goals, and ensure alignment with College-wide objectives, utilizing data and statistics related to program outcomes to engage in improvement strategies.
• Deliver instruction for assigned workload based on campus size and needs.
• Regularly interact with all students and promote a student-centered approach, fostering an environment that supports the personal and professional growth of students.

• The scholarship of practice

• Build a team of highly qualified faculty members, adjunct and/or full‑time, fostering a collaborative and inclusive work environment with regular professional development opportunities; evaluate the team’s outcomes and continuously improve team effectiveness.
• Participate in selection of faculty, continuously evaluating selection criteria and campus needs.

• The scholarship of discovery

• Provide ongoing support, guidance, and professional development opportunities to faculty members.
• Enhance core nursing team members’ skills and promote student success.

• Maintain regulatory compliance:

• Ensure compliant delivery of clinical curriculum (ex. Compliant with CCNE, AACN, ABHES, and BON requirements).
• Maintain compliant records, including faculty files and student records.
• Serve as Program Administrator as needed.

What We Need From You:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Must have:

• Master’s of Science in Nursing degree from an institution accredited by the US Secretary of Education or CHEA.
• Three or more years’ experience as a professional registered nurse providing direct patient care.
• Three or more years’ experience teaching full‑time in a registered nursing program at a college or university.
• Current unencumbered state professional registered nurse license in the state where students are located or qualifying consortium state.

Nice to have:

• Earned doctorate (EdD, Ph.D., or DNP) from an institution accredited by the US Secretary of Education or CHEA.
• Evidence of progressive leadership experience, including supervisory experience and prior experience with instruction, curriculum, academic programs, and the development and growth of academic initiatives.
• Certified Nurse Educator certification and national certification in area of nursing specialty.
