Job Summary

The Assistant Dean for Inclusive Excellence at the Kaiser Bernard J. Tyson School of Medicine (KPSOM) serves as a key leader in advancing inclusive excellence strategies in alignment with the schools mission, vision, and values.

The Assistant Dean will oversee the development and implementation of programs, policies, and practices that foster an inclusive and supportive environment and expand access and opportunity across the school.

This role builds and manages strategic partnerships aligned with institutional priorities, collaborating with both internal and external stakeholders. In addition, the role drives the creation of structured pathways that support student success while strengthening a culture of inclusion.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Provides operational oversight for designated functional areas within the office, ensuring efficient workflows and alignment with departmental goals and priorities.
  • Provide oversight over the design and implementation of programs and events that promote awareness, education and engagement around inclusive excellence.
  • Partners with internal and external partners on strategic initiatives, coordinate activities, and foster collaborative relationships that support organizational objectives.
  • Collaborate with Senior Associate Dean for Admissions; Senior Associate Dean for Inclusive Excellence to align on outreach, recruitment and pathway strategies with KPSOMs mission and strategic goals.
  • Establish metrics to measure impact, inform decision making and evaluate the success of programs.
  • Use data-driven insights to guide continuous program improvement and innovation.
  • Oversee the development and delivery of inclusive resources that inspire and prepare students across educational pathways to pursue careers in medicine.
  • Oversee workshops, mentorship opportunities, and other initiatives that expand access and align with institutional priorities.
  • Oversee the design and implementation of comprehensive health professions pathway programs that provide academic support, mentorship, and career guidance for aspiring medical students.
  • In consultation with the Senior Associate Dean for Admissions; Senior Associate Dean for Inclusive Excellence, establish a system of monitoring, assessing, and evaluating pathways programs and goals.
  • Identify funding opportunities and write grant proposals to sustain and expand programming.
  • Collaborate with the Office of Student Affairs to provide pathways engagement opportunities for KPSOM medical students.
  • Serve on relevant KPSOM committees and perform other administrative tasks as needed.
  • Supervise and develop Office of Inclusive Excellence through hiring, onboarding, coaching, performance management, training, resource planning, accountability, and succession planning.
  • Partner with KPSOM team members to ensure compliance with Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC) and Liaison Committee for Medical Education (LCME) accreditation standards related to inclusive excellence.
Basic Qualifications
Experience
  • Minimum of seven (7) years of experience in leading programs and initiatives related to inclusive excellence at a medical education, other higher education, or an education-focused professional environment.
  • Minimum of three (3) years in a leadership role with or without direct reports.
Education
  • Masters Degree
License, Certification, Registration
Additional Requirements
  • Ability to adapt to a changing environment, lead and manage a wide variety of initiatives, and collaborate across organizational departments and functions.
  • Ability to influence others and drive results across teams in a complex organization
  • Experience identifying best practices of inclusive excellence and facilitating their adoption and implementation at an educational institution.
  • Experience in assuring compliance with relevant laws and policies that are relevant to inclusive excellence in an educational setting (e.g., Title IX).
  • Experience and knowledge in research and practice in the fields of inclusivity and equity in education.
Preferred Qualifications
  • PhD or EdD preferred.
  • Experience contributing to and cultivating inclusive acuity and leadership governance structures.
  • Knowledge of WASC and LCME Principles of Accreditation.
  • Successful experience in a leadership position directly relevant to inclusive excellence.
