Responsibilities

• Ensure cleanliness of classrooms, offices, hallways, and stairs and recycle materials per program.
• Clean restrooms and locker rooms daily and replenish supplies.
• Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs to facilities and custodial equipment.
• Set up and take down special equipment for assemblies and events.
• Operate equipment to maintain a clean, safe, and healthy environment.
• Assist in the cafeteria during lunch and help clean the kitchen.
• Guard property against fire, theft, and unauthorized entry and follow safety regulations.
• Provide security for buildings during open hours and secure buildings after hours, responding to calls.
• Close the building by turning off lights, locking doors/windows, and unlocks as required.
• Perform groundskeeping tasks including mowing, trimming, snow/ice removal, and waste handling.
• Lift and move equipment, furniture, or materials up to 50 lbs for distances up to 50 yards.

Who We Are: The Springfield City School District, home to The John Legend Theatre, is seekinga Assistant Custodian at WPW/Schaefer for the 2026-2027school year. We are a nationally ranked Division I District serving approximately 7,500 Pre-K through grade 12 students, in a vibrant learning community of 17 state of the art buildings in west-central Ohio. As a Assistant Custodianyou are required to:

• High School Diploma or the equivalent
• Trainand/or experience which evidences a knowledge of custodial and basic maintenance techniques.

As a Assistant Custodian you will:

• Ensuring cleanliness of classrooms, offices, hallways, and steps and recycles materials according to the recycling program
• Cleans restrooms and locker rooms daily and replenishes supplies
• Performs routine maintenance and minor repairs to facilities and custodial equipment including groundskeeping equipment
• Sets up and takes down special equipment for assemblies, special programs and other activities
• Operates necessary equipment to promote a clean, safe, and healthy environment
• Assists in the cafeteria during lunch, and assists in cleaning the kitchen
• Guards property against fire, theft, and illegal entry and obeys all safety regulations at all times
• Provides security for buildings by attending to the physical plant during open hours and secures all doors, windows, and restricted areas during closed hours and responds to Sonitrol calls in the absence of the Head Custodian
• Closes the building by shutting off all lights, locking all doors and windows, and unlocks doors as required
• Performs a variety of tasks to the grounds surrounding the building including mowing, trimming shrubbery, removing snow and ice, picking up and emptying receptacles, etc.
• Lifts and moves equipment, furniture, supplies, or materials (e.g., weight up to 50 lbs, and distances up to 50 yards)

What We Offer:
As a contracted employee, this position works 8hours per day, 260days per year.
Monday - Friday 3p-12a split
Starting salary is $20.41per hour.
