Job summary

The New York Botanical Garden (nybg) invites applications for an assistant curator in restoration ecology. This career-track role seeks someone to develop a field-oriented research program using plants to advance restoration, conservation, climate resilience, and biodiversity goals with a focus on tropical ecosystems and experience in the Caribbean and Latin America.

Qualifications

• Earned PhD in ecology, botany, biology, restoration ecology, conservation biology, plant science, environmental science, or related field.
• Postdoctoral or equivalent professional experience preferred.
• Strong publication record and evidence of external funding capability.
• Demonstrated expertise in restoration ecology, plant community ecology, or related fields.
• Experience in tropical ecosystems; Caribbean and Latin America preferred.
• Ability to design and implement field-based research and monitoring programs.
• Strong quantitative skills: statistics, ecological modelling, GIS, remote sensing, data science, programming, ML.
• Ability to translate science for diverse audiences; effective communication skills.
• Commitment to inclusive environment and collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Develop an internationally recognized research program in restoration ecology.
• Lead field-based restoration projects, monitoring, and evaluation.
• Leverage NYBG collections and resources for research initiatives.
• Build partnerships with academia, government, NGOs, and other gardens.
• Attract extramural funding; publish peer-reviewed work and reports.
• Engage in service, public communication, and education/outreach.
