Job Description

Clarke Community School District is seeking an Assistant Cross Country coach for the 2026-2027 school year.

Position Title: Assistant Varsity Coach

Reports To: Activities Director/Principal

Position Goal: To develop and grow student athletes, athletically and personally.

Supervises: 9-12 Coaches

Job Summary: Responsible for overall management of 9-12 specific activity program.

Qualifications
  • Iowa Coaching License/Authorization
  • Previous playing experience (preferred)
  • Previous coaching experience in the sport (preferred)
Performance Responsibilities
  • Instruct athletes regarding techniques, rules, and safety practices of the sport.
  • Develop and organize practice program with Activity Director’s philosophy.
  • Schedule and conduct practices according to agreed upon schedules.
  • Supervise athletes from the scheduled beginning of practice or game until the last athlete is picked up, knowing where all participants are at all times.
  • Supervise athletes on bus trips to other schools.
  • Promote the entire Clarke Community Schools Athletics program.
  • Set an example of the highest ethical and moral conduct including respecting and supporting contest officials.
  • Foster among the participants and spectators an appreciation of the values of athletics, an attitude of good sportsmanship, and a sense of pride in self, team, school, and community.
  • Promote a healthy lifestyle to student athletes.
  • Assist the activities director to ensure that lists of all players eligible for athletic contests are prepared and maintained under district rules.
  • Communicate with Activities Director and/or Administrative Assistant to ensure all athletes have completed required documentation, including concussion form, medical insurance coverage form, and passed any required medical examinations before the regular practice season begins.
  • Communicate with parents regarding team rules, schedule, and athletic department guidelines.
  • Work with Activities Director and Administrative Assistant to ensure accurate inventory of equipment and uniforms.
  • Adhere to all safety laws and district policies.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Activities Director.
Terms of Employment

Salary and contract length to be determined in accordance with provisions of the Agreement between CCEA and CCSD.

Evaluation: To be done annually by the Activities Director and/or Building Principal.
