Job summary

Ramsey County seeks an experienced Assistant County Attorney to provide legal services to the County Board of Commissioners, prosecute criminal cases, and represent the county in civil matters. Qualifications

• Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.
• Licensed to practice law in Minnesota and in good standing.
• Minimum three years of experience as a practicing attorney.

Responsibilities

• Prepare cases for judicial and administrative proceedings by interviewing clients and witnesses, researching law, drafting pleadings and briefs.
• Try assigned criminal or civil cases and represent the county at hearings.
• Determine charging decisions and negotiate pleas or settlements.
• Advise and supervise junior attorneys and staff on trial strategy and submissions.
• Negotiate contracts, leases, settlements, or similar matters.
• Analyze legislation and case law to stay current on legal developments.
• Prepare legal opinions and plan litigation strategies for issues.
• Draft proposed legislation and respond to inquiries regarding legislation.
• Provide training and advice to law enforcement and other agencies on legal matters.
• Prepare appellate briefs and argue before appellate courts.
• Recommend case dispositions to judges and referees.
