Job summary

Prince George County, Virginia is seeking a full-time Assistant County Attorney to work with the County Attorney in transactional matters and litigation in all state and federal courts. The Assistant will represent the County, Board of Supervisors, employees and various departments in civil matters.

Salary is based on relevant experience. Requirements include graduation from an accredited law school with at least two years of practice, and Virginia licensure.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited law school with a minimum of two years of experience in the practice of law.
• Must be licensed to practice law in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
• Working knowledge of local government law; knowledge of state and federal laws and regulations and their relationship to the authority and functions of County.
• Ability to organize, interpret and apply legal principles and knowledge to complex legal problems.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with public officials and the general public.
• Good professional judgment; good legal research and writing skills; positive attitude and desire to serve the citizens.

Responsibilities

• Represent the County in civil matters in state and federal courts.
• Work closely with the County Attorney in transactional matters and litigation.
• Represent the County, the Board of Supervisors, employees and various departments, boards and commissions in civil matters.
• Schedule requires being at the County office building three days a week.

Graduation from an accredited law school with a minimum of two years of experience in the practice of law; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Must be licensed to practice law in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

The work schedule is flexible, however, the job requires being at the County office building three days a week.
