Job Title: Assistant Controls Technician

Location: San Jose, CA

Summary

We seek an Assistant Controls Technician in San Jose, CA, to support the service, maintenance, and programming of Direct Digital Control (DDC) and Building Automation Systems (BAS) for commercial mechanical systems. This role is ideal for individuals with foundational experience in BAS or HVAC systems seeking to enhance their technical expertise in the commercial mechanical construction industry. Candidates must have a local and stable work history and a strong interest in growing their skills in cutting-edge BAS technologies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in diagnosing, troubleshooting, and repairing BAS/DDC systems, including HVAC controls, chillers, and air handlers.
  • Support programming, commissioning, and integration of BAS platforms such as Tridium Niagara, Distech, Alerton, ALC, and other systems.
  • Work alongside senior technicians to perform retrofits, system upgrades, and installations for commercial mechanical systems.
  • Using software like AutoCAD, Bluebeam, and Revit ensures the work is accurately documented, including system configurations, service logs, and project details.
  • Adhere to commercial building codes and assist in ensuring optimal system performance.

Qualifications

  • 2–3 years of experience in BAS/DDC, HVAC controls, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with BAS platforms, including Tridium Niagara, Metasys, Alerton, or similar systems, and a basic understanding of BACnet protocols.
  • Familiarity with HVAC system components, including chillers, boilers, variable air volume (VAV) systems, and variable frequency drives (VFDs).
  • Proficiency or exposure to technical tools such as AutoCAD, Revit, and Bluebeam for documentation and planning.
  • Demonstrated interest in advancing technical skills within BAS and HVAC control systems.
