Job summary

Barings is seeking an Associate Director-level Assistant Controller, Investment Accounting to oversee accounting for private real estate investments and to coordinate with investment teams and clients. The role supports the Real Estate Equity group under the private investment platform, requiring strong accounting expertise and leadership in a fast-paced environment.

The position is based in Boston with responsibilities spanning client reporting, quarterly closes, and production of performance

Qualifications

• 5+ years of accounting experience (Big 4 preferred).
• Experience in real estate fund accounting and preparation of financial statements is preferred.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting; CPA designation preferred.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills; project management abilities are a plus.

Responsibilities

• Oversee accounting and fiduciary duties for private real estate investments.
• Review partnership waterfalls for JV and Fund level entities.
• Maintain the general ledger and sub-ledgers; prepare trial balances.
• Perform quarterly close process and deliver timely client reports.

Job Summary

Barings’ Global Client Operations team has an Associate Director level opening for a motivated individual who would like to join our team of financial professionals. This individual will be responsible for oversight of multiple portfolios, client reporting and providing support to both internal and external clients. The candidate will support the Real Estate Equity group under the private investment platform. The ideal candidates will have broad accounting expertise as well as be knowledgeable of operational best practices in Real Estate Equity. Our teams consist of highly skilled CPAs, MBAs, and CFAs who are expected to provide accurate, timely, and efficient services. This individual will be responsible for the following areas:

Primary Responsibilities

• Perform accounting and finance fiduciary responsibility over firm’s private investments in real estate.
• Review and maintain partnership waterfalls for JV and Fund level entities
• Maintain the general ledger and various sub-ledgers, where applicable
• Prepare and review trial balances
• Perform the quarterly close process
• Manage and monitor the timing and quality of client deliverables
• Manage workflow for capital calls and distributions
• Work closely with investment teams
• Production of client reports (month/quarterly cycles)
• Produce account level financial performance metrics
• Interact with senior management, portfolio management team and investment analysts
• Proactively communicate and coordinate with various internal groups
• Ad hoc reports as needed

Qualifications

• 5+ years of accounting experience (Big 4 public accounting preferred)
• Experience in real estate fund accounting and preparation of financial statements is preferred.
• Project management skills with attention to detail and proven ability to multi-task
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (CPA designation preferred)
• Ability to manage associates
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Working knowledge of Excel and Word are essential, Investran and MRI experience is a plus

Base Salary Range: $115,000- $135,000 (also includes additional incentive compensation programs)
