Zanda is hiring an Assistant Controller for a high-growth fintech company providing flexible financing solutions to small and medium-sized businesses. The company has supported thousands of businesses nationwide, delivering billions in funding through a streamlined, technology-driven process.

Reporting directly to the VP of Finance, this role is crucial to the accounting and finance functions, overseeing budgeting, forecasting, month-end close, management reporting, and the annual audit. It offers a high-impact opportunity to contribute to a fast-paced, results-driven environment and play a key role in the company's growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead financial reporting, month-end close, and audit processes.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and strategic financial planning.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure accurate financial insights.
  • Maintain high standards of financial integrity and compliance.

A Day in the Life of an Assistant Controller:

Accounting:

  • Manage a timely, accurate, and efficient monthly accounting close, including review of journal entries and operating results to ensure accuracy.
  • Responsible for the annual financial statement audit, including preparation of supporting documentation and interaction with external auditors.
  • Identify and lead initiatives to enhance processes and improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the accounting department’s close and reporting cycles.
  • Enhance the use of relevant software and its integration into accounting processes.
  • Ensure successful calculation and completion of the company’s tax filings, working with external tax consultants.
  • Ensure financial records are maintained in compliance with GAAP/CECL policies for external audits.

FP&A:

  • Assist in the annual operating budget process, track performance relative to plan, and manage rolling forecasts.
  • Oversee the preparation of financial management reports, including variance analysis.
  • Consolidate and analyze financial data (budgets, income statements, forecasts) and present findings to the executive team.
  • Establish and monitor KPIs relevant to a lending business.
  • Prepare materials for Board of Director meetings.
  • Provide recommendations to reduce costs and improve financial performance.
  • Collaborate on unit economics analysis and cost efficiency monitoring.
  • Track financial results against forecasts.
  • Develop and document business processes and internal controls.

Qualifications:

  • BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or related field.
  • CPA required.
  • 6-8 years of relevant financial experience, including management roles.
  • Mandatory lending business experience.
  • Leadership experience managing small teams is a plus.
  • Proficiency in GAAP, revenue recognition, and financial modeling.
  • Strong analytical and reporting skills.
  • Experience with financial statements, general ledger, and month-end/year-end close processes.
  • Proficient in spreadsheets, databases, MS Office, and financial software.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
