Job summary

North Star Resource Group is seeking an Assistant Controller to oversee the accounting department and assist with financial operations. This role focuses on internal controls, staff supervision, and liaison between advisors and the accounting team.

The ideal candidate has a Bachelor's in accounting (CPA preferred), 3–5 years in accounting/financial services, and strong Excel skills with experience in ERP systems (Great Plains, Business Central) and QuickBooks.

• 3-5 years experience in accounting, financials, and financial services preferred.
• Previous experience supervising accounting staff preferred.
• Strong experience with ERP systems (Great Plains, Business Central) and QuickBooks.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy; confidentiality required.
• Excellent Microsoft Excel skills.

• Oversee accounting department and internal auditing

• Serve as a liaison between advisors and the accounting team

• Oversee team member benefits administration
• Oversee advisor commissions process

• Oversee/handle accounting for North Star related organizations (NS Tax, NSRG Ventures, Charitable Foundation)

Minimum requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in accounting. CPA preferred
• 3-5 years experience in accounting, financials, and financial services preferred
• Previous experience supervising accounting staff preferred
• Strong working experience using ERP accounting system (i.e. Great Plains, Business Central)-Solid experience using Quickbooks and other accounting software
• Strong curiosity and ability to identify and implement process improvements-Experience integrating AI into accounting functions is a plus
• Extremely high attention to detail and accuracy
• Maintain confidentiality of information
• Excellent customer service skills
• Ability to troubleshoot and research compensation/accounting issues
• Excellent Microsoft Excel skills and working with large data files

ADDITIONAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

• Knowledge of insurance / financial services industry preferred
• Experience with payroll administration would be a plus
• Good organizational and demonstrated problem solving skills
• Good understanding of DOL compliance for W2 team members and 1099 Independent Contractor IRS guidelines
