Work Location/ Schedule: Vernon, CA | Hybrid 4 Days In Office
The Role: We are looking for a technically strong and operationally minded Assistant Controller to join our finance leadership team. This role carries a heavy emphasis on cost accounting and inventory accounting, and will be the senior owner of our global inventory valuation, standard costing, and gross margin accuracy — while also contributing to broader controllership responsibilities.
This is an ideal role for a seasoned accounting leader who thrives in a hands‑on environment, has deep technical expertise in cost and inventory accounting, and is ready to grow into broader controller‑level ownership within a fast‑scaling global brand.
What You’ll Do:
- Own the global standard costing methodology: cost rolls, BOM governance, and cost integrity across all product categories
- Lead inventory valuation across raw materials, WIP, finished goods, retail, and in‑transit inventory, including accurate capitalization of landed costs, in a multi‑country environment
- Advanced Financial Analysis to drive visibility into PPV, production variances, freight variances, working capital management and cost absorption with clear gross margin analysis for leadership
- Manage the Allowance for Inventory Reserve process and establish strong controls around obsolescence and inventory aging
- Month‑End Close & Financial Reporting
- Manage the month‑end close for inventory and cost accounting, including complex journal entries, SL‑to‑GL reconciliations, COGS reporting, and flux explanations
- Support broader controllership close activities and ensure accuracy and timeliness of financial reporting
- Serve as the primary liaison for cost and inventory accounting during external audits
- Identify and eliminate manual processes within costing and inventory workflows, leveraging ERP functionality and automation tools
- Lead ERP optimization initiatives (NetSuite preferred) and build reporting dashboards and KPIs that improve decision‑making speed
- Implement stronger controls and standardized processes across global supply chain accounting
- Partner closely with Supply Chain, Production, Planning, FP&A, and DC Operations to ensure financial accuracy and operational insight
- Lead, mentor, and develop the cost and inventory accounting team; build a high‑performing function that scales with the business
- Support new market launches and evolving distribution models with scalable cost structures
What You’ll Bring:
- Experience: 8–10+ years in cost and inventory accounting within retail, apparel, e‑commerce, or CPG; 3–5+ years in a senior leadership role
- Technical Depth: Deep expertise in standard costing, variance analysis, landed cost accounting, and the full inventory lifecycle from receipt through COGS recognition
- Global Experience: Proven track record in high‑growth, multi‑entity environments with international manufacturing and cross‑border inventory flows
- Systems: Advanced ERP experience required; NetSuite strongly preferred. Ability to leverage system functionality to reduce manual work
- Excel & Analytics: Expert‑level Excel proficiency with experience building complex financial models and automated tools for large datasets
- Leadership: Strong people manager with a track record of developing accounting teams and driving cross‑functional alignment
- Public & Private Experience: A mix of public accounting (Big 4 or mid‑tier firm) and private industry experience is strongly preferred; public company exposure or experience supporting audit‑ready, SOX‑compliant environments a plus
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required. CPA or MBA highly preferred
Why This Role Is Exciting: This is a high‑impact leadership role with genuine ownership, not a maintenance position. You will have executive visibility, a seat at the table on gross margin and operational strategy, and the opportunity to build scalable financial infrastructure for a rapidly growing global brand.
