Job summary

New Jersey Institute for Disabilities (NJID) is seeking an experienced Assistant Controller to join our nonprofit organization in New Jersey. You will support the Controller in managing accounting operations, ensuring GAAP compliance and accurate financial reporting for funding sources such as DOE, DDD, and Medicaid.

Responsibilities include preparing financial statements, maintaining the general ledger, budgeting, internal controls, audits, and overseeing payroll and vendor payments.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field from regionally accredited college/university.
  • CPA or CMA certification preferred or in process.
  • Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience in diversified industries, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role; nonprofit experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel and Pivot tables.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements per GAAP and funding sources.
  • Maintain the general ledger and supervise accounting staff.
  • Prepare annual budget and semiannual projections, including payroll and operating expenses.
  • Implement and maintain internal controls to safeguard assets.
  • Coordinate with external auditors during audits.
  • Oversee accounts payable, receivable, and payroll.
  • Ensure tax compliance and prepare Tax Form 990.
  • Supervise, train, and support the accounting team.
  • Participate in special projects as directed by the Controller.

New Jersey Institute for Disabilities (NJID)is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Assistant Controller to join our Nonprofit Agency. The Assistant Controller will support the Controller in managing the accounting operations of NJID, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards and regulations as promulgated by GAAP and other funding sources, mainly DOE, DDD and Medicaid.

As the Assistant Controller, you will provide a wide range of support, including:
  • Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual internal financial statements incompliance with funding sources and GAAP
  • Maintain the general ledger and oversee accountingstaff.
  • Prepare the annual budget and biannual financial projections, including Payroll, Operating expenses, and Revenue, supporting schedules for internal and funding sources (DOE, DDD, and County).
  • Implement and maintain adequate internal controls to safeguard company assets.
  • Coordinate with external auditors during financial audits.
  • Oversee accounts payable, receivable, and payroll functions.
  • Ensure tax compliance,prepare annual tax return 990
  • Supervise, train, and support the accounting staff.
  • Participate in special projects and initiatives as assigned by the Controller
The professional we seek must possess the following:
  • Bachelor’sdegree in Accounting, Finance, or related field from a regionally accredited college or university, or
